Hi everyone!

I'm doing some research into the above subject, any information people could give me would be great!

If English learners could answer these few questions it would be great!

1) Do you study English from a Teacher of some sort? If so, what type? (Is it a cram school (塾), Eikaiwa, Cafe Lesson etc.)

2) Roughly, how much do you pay for your lessons?

3) What do you consider to be a fair price for a lesson?

4) Would you prefer to learn from a Native Speaker, and if so, do you have a preference where the speaker is from? (NZ, USA, UK, AUS, etc)

All responses are appreciated!

Thanks very much!

The British's English is not all better than Americans.

We originate from their English (English originates from Germanic language, and Indo-European, so in all honesty, it's not the English that so-called speaks "real english" because the British didn't even establish it), and they do use very different words that differ from us, however, their grammar isn't better than our grammar; for you to say that American English is "not really english" than you are sadly mistaken because we do come from the same speaking system and obviously the same stereotype that British people are more dignified than Americans seems to be what you are basing your opinion on, unless you have a solid reason.

I'm really sick of people always saying that Americans don't speak well enough English, and that they keep coming to the same conclusion that the British are more dignified, proper, and speak better English.
1) Studied English for the first time in my life in Sydney in Australia for 1 year(2002-2003). Then went back to Japan and I was a NOVA student for 1 year. Then entered an English institution in Shinjyuku where I took ESL classes and some academic classes which were transferable to US colleges. Though I wanted to make friends who spoke English, I didn't really have any friends whose mother tongue was English at that time. But the school gave me TONS of homework every day, so I had to read, listen, speak, and write in English everyday.

2) The language school in Sydney, as far as I remember, I paid about $2000-3000 per month. NOVA was EXPENSIVE!!!!!! but I liked it because it was more relaxing atmosphere than the language school or the institution in Shinjyuku. (As for NOVA, I paid.......1000000yen kurai?!?! don't really remember...but I do remember it was expensive!) The institution in Shinjyuku's tuition was 1600000 yen. Additional 200000 yen was needed if one were qualified to take academic classes based on one's TOEFL score.

3) It is TOTALLY up to the situations; where? (cafe, class room, University, home, and so on.) teacher's degree? (High school degree, College graduated= Bachelor, Master or PhD.) class contents? (conversational, or academic = college preparation, focusing on grammar, critical writing, etc. )

4) As long as the teacher's first language is English, I am fine! I have learnt English in Australia, and right now, I go to University in California; I love both English! I am willing to learn English from anybody from anywhere, for me, it doesn't matter which contry they are from.
I continually see remarks like British English originates from Germanic so THE BRITISH didn't even establish it, yes the origins are from Germanic and Norse tribes evidence can still be seen in the names of most British cities, towns and street names etc. But as with all languages they develop over time obviously thousands of years ago the English we know and speak today would not have been spoken and in later years would have been established by the British. In countries such as Wales and areas such as Cornwall they still speak forms of the mother tongue which originates from Gaelic. Fortunately or unfortunately if we must speak of history the British had an Empire which held some influence so English was spoken.......so what!
To make a statement such as "If you want to sound snobby say you speak British English" is negative and biased in itself, maybe ask why is English spoken in America surely true American is that of the Native tribes?
Most non native speakers speak American English....then what about all the English, Scottish, Australian and Kiwi teachers/ instructors?
Ive witnessed many non native instructors teaching English...great for grammar but lost in conversation and thats only a handful the majority I had trouble understanding myself but that shows what state the system is in.
In my time here I have had some extremely negative comments from American teachers so I guess it goes both ways if you want to learn English your gonna have to become accustomed to all and every accent.....we all have opinions but should have the brains to respect.
