hmm..attractive in what way?
Uniqueness, personality, interests, and thought process(psyche) are paramount for me, but being cute doesn't hurt either. I don't mean to be cliche`, but I find the internal qualities holding my attention more than the external. If I focused on the external, then I probably would have a girlfriend by now??
Who knows? To each his own, right?

Everyone tries to be forever young by any means possible (cosmetics, surgery...). Basically, she feels that she can age gracefully and still be beautiful. Most people don't.
Actually, I believe that many people follow other's ideas of what is "attractive". i.e. Just think of how many people look to magazines or movies stars for how they dress/act/etc.
Eventually, everyone's responsible for their own opinions. Personality is most attractive to me, after all beauty always fades with time.

In many cases, I think what we find attractive is not only influenced by the reproductive instincts, but by culture. There's the positive influence, by looking at what famous people of our culture wears, how they act, what members of the opposite sex they prefer, and so on.
Then there's negative reinforcement of that influence. If we have a different opinion on what is attractive that is not accepted (or uncommon) in our culture, we may be targeted for that, not unlike mobbing in school.
I, myself, am much more attracted to asian women than our native swedish ones. I don't know why this is, but it might be due to my early influence by japanese culture during my middle school days. As I was very exposed to japanese beauty ideals and fashion through various movies and TV shows i watched, it might very well have stuck ^_^.
Anyway, one of my friends once said: "Why are you so attracted to asians? They've got small breasts, they're short, almost look like kids. Are you some kind of pedophile?"
Of course, my friend was joking, and we laughed at it, but I cant help but wonder if there are some people who think this way. The standard swedish measure of attractiveness is a tall woman,with blonde hair and big breasts, and I could imagine that swedish men who disagreed with this could find themselves discriminated or at least given uncomfortable comments by their friends. Especially since it is a popular subject of discussion in school and at the workplace.

Isn't this idea itself following somebody else's idea...?
I think it's totally natural that people get influenced by their social values, which (fundamentally) differs from the time and region.
You'll see what I mean if you look at the aristocrat drawings from ancient paintings.
One particular example, you might be familiar with would be, that recent research about Hamlet shows that the dismal protagonist from the masterpiece of Shakespeare, may have actually been fat.
This inplies that being fat was not so underappreciated back then.
Moreover, this way of thinking doesn't only hold true for just "WHAT IS ATTRACTIVE".
Who defined "being successful" as just being economically rich?
Who defined "being old" makes you less valuable?
Who defined you are supposed to seek a *cough* "true love" which is to be your *cough cough* sole soulmate for your entire lifetime?
we are more or less affected by our social values to some extent (unless you have some sort of antisocial behaviour disorder), which makes us culturally distinct from each other countrywise.
However, the growing globalization has made our world smaller and brought our social values closer.
Then again, how do you know if "your own idea" is completely your original, not from the one you once got in touch with?

It's almost impossible to have original ideas except for some questions. Questions tend to be original. Otherwise ideas are just informations imported from some other HD which had also imported from some other HD.
But there is one thing that is completely original, and that is your consciousness. It is there not imported, non imitated, not created even, we are born with it. That's purely original, but almost all of us have forgotten its existence and are only concerned about some informations borrowed afterward. Isn't it a disaster?
