Today OCT 8th is gonna be a great anniversary of my Japanese and French friends. They are getting married today but in EU time. I wish all the best for them. Well they've been my friends for ages almost 3 years. They have been online friends each other, then moved to the next step as special relationship as a BF and a GF. I know it's controversial. Some ppl think it's trickey and riskey to find someone special through online but on the contrary some are positive. What do you think ? Anyway I'm happy for them as their old online friend who knows their history of love in these several years.
You Got Mail is a great movie. They fall in love because the impression they've got through the mails is not so far away from the real person (even better). Well, i guess that's the key.
When a virtual friend become something more to you, itz really cool cuz this kind of thing scarcely happens.
I got some friends who are working in Japan, one of them came to India suddenly for his internship and we met each other to get pallied better. We are huge Pearl jam fan and we had fun with music and beer..that waz a really good time. One of those thingz you love to look back and cherish...
I don't think online love is stupid either. I think it's amazing that you can fall in love with someone whom you only speak to through mails, messenger or on the phone.
online bf/gf is hard to work out... if ever. If they meet IRL but just live far away, it can't be helped and is still hard but is more reasonable to keep going.
i don't know about looking for a partner online...but nothing wrong with extending ur network and meet great people online. then meet in person, do business, have relationship...etc whatever from there is just like how u do offline. but i do know one thing through my experience that u need to be ready to accept the reality. off course some things will be differenet from what it was in ur imagination.
i also think that some people can open up and be themselves better online. i'm like that too, it's easier for me to type than say...
I think both are ok. What ever works. Some people can do a realationship online and others have to be face to face. If it works for you and your happy I say go for it.
My girlfriend lives in Tokushima, Japan. I live in Ohio, US. We met on MIXI, spent a month together in the US, and communicate online as we commit to our lives as students, her back in Japan and me in the US. It's hard, admittedly, but I'm certain we wouldn't have it any other way. So yes, it can work
my ex boyfriend's brother met his wife online. They happened to be in the same university. They went out for one and a half year and just get married August this year. I went to their wedding also. I think online relationship could work, but not for everyone. hmmm...maybe I should try it also.
you can definatly meet good people online!
I have met many of my close friends over the internet, and I know many couples, some married who have met online. I think the biggest difference is there is more of a chance they could be hiding things, of course you meet more people online so there is more "sorting"
I'm so surprised to see the thread, thanks for sharing your opinions and experiences on this board. I wish the best of luck for the people who are in the long distance relationship and confessed feelings here. Thanks to the breakthroughs of the Internet we can feel close through web-cameras and microphones, but I'm sure it's hard to keep up the relations with the long distance and the time differences. I respect the great effort to care their own partners. Relationship is sometimes hard even when we live close. I think as long as we can respect and care each other, we can build up great friendship also partnership online like in the real life. People are people no matter how we met. I learned this from my new wed friends. Please let me end up with congratulating the new wed couple again. :)
I kinda came back to this community, guess just taking a peek again.
I've met dozens on line, and dated, well, over 30 of them in the last few years. I always used my gut hunch.
If I didn't see myself with the person for the next 5 years, kiss good-bye. No chemistry, no chance. I tried to meet, if there was anything between us, ASAP, rather than building up some selfish and unrealistic expectations over the email game. I got what I wanted, and looked no further.
Meeting someone is just the beginning of a story, and getting married finally brings us to the starting point. That's how I see it. If it's practical, go for it, you know. Oh, once I was at the starting point, and lasted for like 5 years. But, I can get back to the starting point again.
Oh, our lives are so short, and I just uploaded a new video (kinda self-indroduction) talking about our lives on YouTube. I've got nothing to hide.

Anyway, good luck with everyone finding their love. I went to see the movie "Into the Wild" yesterday, directed by Sean Penn, I guess. Also the story was on the best-seller like 15 years ago. Chris (the guy that went "wild") wrote before dying.... Happiness needs to be shared. I totally agree. We all deserve to find ones to share happiness with, you know!
It actually depends on the people. Whether or not they're able to trust one another. It takes some effort, but sometimes it works out just fine.
My brother met his girlfriend online and talked for awhile. Eventually, they met and have been happy ever since.
I met my boyfriend online. Well, he saw my mixi profile and started talking to me on MSN. We meet usually once every two months, but now I'm in Japan for the school year... so I can't meet him again until December/January!! :( Then I'll be back in Japan until June. It's really hard, but Skype is very awesome. We've been together for 10 months already, and I really feel like we were made for each other. I think if people connect so well and have the effort to make a relationship like mine work, then of course it's a great way to meet people. :)
My friend on the Internet is really awesome. We've chatted a lot since March. I really like him but I may also be in love with the imaginary himself making up by me... It's hard to tell if it is a real love or not when it comes to online love.
"I really like him but I may also be in love with the imaginary himself making up by me... It's hard to tell if it is a real love or not when it comes to online love."
I strongly agree with this comment. I have gone threw the same thing many times. I think it is very important to meet them in person as soon as you are comfortable (and able) to do so, before you start making up things about them to fill in the gaps.
Min my friend, I think it's fine as long as both people are careful. Trust is even more important in an online relationship since you are not there to make them think of you to stop them from doing something hurtful.
Between adults, I think it can be a good thing.
Personally, I don't take it seriously when someone says they are in an "online relationship" with someone they haven't yet met in person.
It's a lovely thought to imagine that love is blind to physical features, but I don't think that's how humans are. At one level love is an intellectual/emotional connection, but at another it's a matter of brain chemistry, pheromones, genetics, and so on.
I think some couples get along great in chat, and then try to force the relationship onwards even though the physical connection isn't there. For my money, this is just as unwise as the reverse.
Interesting...
I was surprised when I read ur story.
I've never thought it would work... but yeah in fact it works for some people... which is really good and romantic I heard a story about someone did online relationship, when the girl came to visit her boyfriend, she was tricked!! She was kidnapped and robbed. Some horrible people use it in a very mean way .
I hope it never happen to any of us here...
It`s fine to meet someone online.. but not to carry out the entire relationship online and think it will workout. Of course you have to meet the person face to face and spend quality time together. But meeting people on line is a great way to save a lot of time. You get to know them from the inside and not from the outside appearance prospective only. If you like the way the think and can love them for who they are first it can only make the relationship better for when you actually meet. After all the person on the inside will always be the same, while our appearances will change with time. As long as people take things step by step and don`t just jump into bed or agree to get married strickly from their knowledge of the person online without ever spending real time together everything should be fine. And long distance relationships are hard but not impossible for everyone.
Wow! I'm so surprised to see how many people in this community met their S.O. online. This is pretty cool! Actually I met my GF thru mixi. She was a friend of a friend of a friend..so basically a stranger :P I think we were both really skeptical of it until we met up, and we totally clicked. It's been over a year, and things are going great, though like many people noted..long distance is a pain in the ass (NYC to JP)
To be honest though, if I had a friend who told me that they met someone online, I would still be really skeptical. But I guess when you're in love a person, nothing else matters, right???
