No, honestly. TV sensors people showing the finger and swearing cuz there might be viewers who might "get offended." Who are these bozos, if they exist? If someone says "XXXX you" on the TV, everyone knows what fits in the 4 censored X's! We ain't dumb! Yet, when TV shows people who pukes or cockroaches, they don't bother censoring. I don't know about you, I don't give XXXX about people showing middle fingers, but I really would prefer if TV exec censor people puking on the TV!
there are many ugly things shown on TV every minute. In fact, over 90% seems to be ugly things. It's just out of proportion. But that's because we want to see them. You know, others' trouble, Paris Hilton, etc, just to check we are not doing so bad. We are morbid.
What's wrong with me? 10 glasses of alcohol in the weekday and watching new episodes of Simpsons, lol. Simpsons episodes used to be really good, but new ones aren't us good....
I, for one, would rather not see people flipping off or hear people shouting four-letter words on TV. I see/hear them in real life so much, it is a comfort that I don't have to when I turn on my TV. There's got to be something wrong with me.
Well, censorship is a tough issue I think. Personally I would see no problem with uncensoring mature 17+ TV shows, but the other stuff should have restraint. Some words in English are taboo whether we like it or not, and whether they became that way for good reason or not. So I do think the line still needs to be drawn. And society's youth need to be taught about those words properly. Some people find those words offensive (and they are not all conservative Christians.. cuz I know somebody's gonna bring up that point to bitch about), therefore the way we conduct ourselves personally and professionally should be different. Whether you are a CEO of a large corperation or working the service desk and Wal-mart, I think there needs to be that distinguishment.
South Park had an interesting point about this in one of the episodes... the show went uncensored and they said sh*t like 161 times in the show. But the point at the end was that if you just throw cuss words around all the time, they kind of loose their effectiveness, and fun for some people. If you think about it.. it is kind of true... well it all depends I guess, but I think it was a decent point.
I don't get how nobody has a problem with showing
graphic simulated murder on TV, they'll even let
their kids watch it, but show graphic simulated
sex and everyone is jumping up and down and screaming
"decay of civilisation".
I think Southpark is really interesting. They are
often pushing the boundaries but they always have
something good to say. If you like Southpark, you
should watch a few episodes of "The Chasers War on
Everything". You can watch them online. They have
gone a little too far occasionally but they are
pretty funny.
Decency and morality have gone by the
wayside. More & more, not only is it acceptable
to show profanity and immorality on TV and in the
media, but it is considered politically incorrect
to speak out against such things. If there's one
thing that this country (oops, showing my
ethnocentricity there. I'm from the US.) was
founded upon, it is our right to speak our minds,
and to demand change. Even if you are in the
minority, you should have the right to say, "I
think this is wrong". If enough people agree
with you, things might change. But even if there
aren't enough, no-one has the right to say you
can't speak your opinion, or call you
"unpatriotic" for it...
But yeah, censoring with a "beeeep" is pretty
useless; everyone know what the guy is saying.
I laugh at the ones too that dub in a guy saying
"die, you stupid bad person!" when the voice
doesn't match the original actor, and you can
clearly see the lips saying, "mudder trucker!"
Yeah, I have always been wondering why it is OK to show how somebody gets shot in a TV drama or movie, but it is a big no-no to show pubic hair, for example. Which is less harmless.
i've heard movies and TVs are full of violence because we demand it. We want to kill someone at the office, in town or in the past. Those demands from each one of us get together and become collective unconsciousness, and there we see violent movies all over, and we willingly pay for them.
John, yea, pubic hair is far more natural and human than murder scene.
That's my point. We demand sex as much as violence, if not more. Yet TV shows all the violent scenes while blocking sex scenes. I'd call double standards on that.
True. i heard sex has been hidden and suppressed in the name of religion, morality, and if it had not been so, no one would have been so much sex-oriented (as i am seeing some naked net girls now) Any natural energy, if suppressed, will seek a way out.
