I don't this question has been brought up in this community. There have been topics on relationships and all that jazz, but what do we consider what Love is? Is a special bond between 2 people? a group of people? Something completely different? or That song from the Night at the Roxburry.... haha... probably botched the spelling. Ya i know, another random topic.....

love...I think there are many different kinds of love. The way you feel about your family, your friends, your lover, the feelings towards them are all love and i loved them, but it is all different love...(i guess...)

You could express and word it out in different ways, you could remeber by smell and taste as well.

I think you feel "love" bascally everywhere in your life.

so...that means you could define love as your life!?

I don't know, but I agree with 茶人 saying love is passion!! it is definitely emotional and hot fire thing!!you can't take contol of it even it your feeling, it is wild but at the same time it gentle and soft, warm thing.

it's everything !!
# 20 Could you please show me what you mean :)

"Guys and girls have a hard time with truly platonic friendships. It's rare." Its impossible!!! if there is any attraction at all you are doomed to one day fall for or lust after your friend. Thats like saying a gynecologist never enjoys his work. I know someone will say how professionals don`t allow those thoughts to enter their minds. Bullshit.
I've thought about this before, and the only thing I can come up with is that after thousands of years, we still can't figure out what it is exactly. haha

Yeah, Haddaway. Good song.
Love is your attitude.

Love is your will.

Love is what you do.

You cannot have love.

You cannot get love.

You give love.
baby don't hurt me
don't hurt me
no more ^_^

Love is when you are willing to sacrifice everything you own(even your life !) for the person/people you love.

Love is when you are happy just because the person you love is happy

Love is when you are sad just because the person you love is sad

Love is when you care more for the person you love than for yourself

Love can be described in many various ways ^_^
each one is different yet the same
Love is neurotrophin levels in your brain messing with your perception of everything.

While I'm in a bitter and disgruntled mood with the opposite sex in general, I have nothing nice to say on the subject of love.. Except maybe my daughter. I love her (the thought of her makes me smile). If she needed both my kidneys I'd hand them over straight away even if it means the end of my being.
i was thinking about Love. have you ever fallen in love with s.o.? for me, the answer is YES. and that was when i was 19. i wont write about some details but we broke up finally. i still love him even though we will not go out with near the future cos i know he dont want to. when i think about him, i feel happiness and sth warm inside my heart. so, if we love s.o., we want give sth, not want to be given, i guess.
I think that if you don't have feelings for your friend during the first few years of knowing them, then there isn't a chance you will fall for them later (except out of loneliness and desperation...rebund or something).

People want to have sex. Since people want to have sex, they will probably have sex with someone they love. It isn't required, but if you want to do it anyways, isn't it better to do it with someone you love?
A wonderful perspective about Love that I read from Harry Palmer, author of Living Deliberately, is, "Love is an expression of the willingness to create space in which something is allowed to change."
Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is so worth it. Touching words from the mouth of babes.

What does Love mean? A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?"
The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."
Rebecca - age 8

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."
Billy - age 4

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."
Karl - age 5

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."
Chrissy - age 6

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."
Terri - age 4

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
Danny - age 7

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss."
Emily - age 8

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."
Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate."
Nikka - age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."
Noelle - age 7

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well."
Tommy - age 6

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore."
Cindy - age 8

"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night."
Clare - age 6

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken."
Elaine-age 5

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford."
Chris - age 7

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."
Mary Ann - age 4

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."
Lauren - age 4

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." (what an image)
Karen - age 7

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross."
Mark - age 6

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."
Jessica - age 8

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."
Shame on me, how come those kids know so well... Thank you for sharing it.

So Cute and Touching answers~
I was amased in how the children can describe LOVE in a simple way.
It made me think...Thank you very much for sharing it!!
I love children. As you may know, I am Santa every year here. This past xmas, I saw over 1000 kids as Santa. I just love their purity and these examples are the essence of why.
I've enjoyed this thread.
Most of comments are profound and touching.
As for 茶人's, kids can get the essence of love since
they are surrounded by limited environment and with ones
who love them like their parents and families.

As for me, love is still hard to understand.
I think I can feel it but not easily give it an
simple definision. Like, Love can make people kill
somebody.
>あれれあれ
love is not the only thing that makes people kill people. so does drugs, money, religion, and many other simple things. just because it makes you kill someone does not necessarily mean that its complicated.

>茶人
these are nice words, but they are shallow to define what love really is. they sound cute... but its like trying to define the word with a bunch of examples.
simply because ALL humans experience these same kind of feelings, regardless of time, race, or culture, even animals, love must obviously have a simple definition. regardless of what people who dont understand human existance think.
you know, i read over all the posts again. im amazed how little people really try to understand the human psychi. instead of rationalizing there feelings, people just proclaim its something extremely special and non-logical. The only reason people still do this, is because if love is logical, people lose alot of value in life. alot of people live for love and thought of its magicalness... i just think its funny.
PLEASE READ>
Love is from instincts. Love is your connection to something that is biologically beneficially.

for most, family is the entire reason for their existence, we associate them as being a source of food, protection, shelter, and over all, making our lives easier.

friendes, ultimately, through friends you learn to fit into society.

finally, the strongest form of love. also the most important to ensure humans continued existence, the love of a lover, noone can deny that the greatest physical feeling of joy that one can experience is no more than sexual. because of its amazing feeling, people want it more and more. they begin to do anything for their lovers, knowing that they will recieve in return (or hoping). virgins... will argue against this, but any experienced person knows how much stronger a sexual relationshipis. It even makes couples that have been fighting, or even have nothing in common, bond together. some of you may remember of the times when you are hopelessly stuck in a relationship knowing you need out, but staying in because your so connected to her.

think about the animalistic necessity. prior to technology, when humans had to hunt and fight for survival, life was tough. if a female got pregnant there is no way (or not very likely) that she could survive on her own. im sure any pregnant women can vouch, life is tougher during pregnancy.. so imagine if life was one big camping trip at the same time. so the males, who are biologically stronger than females stay to protect and help her. but face it, humans are by nature selfish, if we didnt have a reason to stay with our mate, we wouldn't.. just think,,, you leave your friends alone every night and you dont get sad, even your family... but not usually a girlfirend, if you lover her. so humans get addicted to what they percieve as good, usually sex and the strong connection between them.. its easier for 2 people to survive together than 1. so not only do they benefit from living together, they are also able to enjoy lifes greatest physical pleasures.

people dont like to think like this because they feel that it takes from the "magical" feeling of love. however, even though i think this way... i still enjoy love, simply because even if you know what it is, you can still enjoy it... just as you enjoy eating every single day.

Thanks a lot for sharing these words of those golden children! They know some things we adults have somehow forgotten... shame... indeed...

I hope we all will find these "True Love" in our lives... " LOVE" that I believe is not to take, but to give...

Love in Agape...

Not in Eros...
>茶人 - Thank you for reminding us that love is simple, and something we all have in our lives from birth.

Just like primary colours, there are 2 pure emotions in life, LOVE and FEAR. ALL behaviour comes from one, or the other. So, whenever you do or say something, think...

Am I doing this from LOVE, or from FEAR?...

If the answer is FEAR, change it! Make it something from LOVE. Your life will be MUCH happier. The love will come back to you too.

Some people feel they have a loveless life, but this isn't true. What's happened is the life they've created has been based mostly in fear. But we all have the power to create our lives. We do this by the choices we make, every day.

Love is a choice. The best choice for everything you do, and everything you say.

Joe.
Joe> I couldn`t agree more that love is choice, as are all emotions!! Love is individual. It is something to be felt, held and given. Lust and passion are often confused with love. Even they may entail love, they are not love.

Love is pure and within. I can give it freely and it is always there in endless supply. As for explaining what it is, it is not to be explained away, it just exists and we all know where it is within.

That giving of love to another in exchange, is often just an exchange of many feelings. . . love may be one of the feelings, but love must be given freely with no expectation and unconditionally, or it is not really being given.

If when one breaks up with a person, one feels no love or hate, maybe there was no love to begin with. If one can give ones love to someone and watch them go be with another person and are happy for them, maybe you truly love that person, but if you are angry, do you really love that person?
I enjoy watching people form the most romantic definition that they can conjure to define a such a simple thing.
but its not more interesting than how other people percieving the romantic definition buys into it.

a computer is more complicated than love.
;)

I love the notion of those kids.Since they are less socially manupilated than grown-ups,they may have a good point on this topic.I like kids,I don't know whether they like me or not, though.
-------------------------------------------------------
Anyway,it is a really interesting topic since the topic must be commonly come up to every human's mind at some point through our life somehow in a different way for each individuals. And I am also one of those who have been struggling to define it clearly;however, the more I think about it or discuss it with my friends, the more vague its difinition becomes as if it tries to escape from being grasped.

I honestly don't know what genuine LOVE is but will try to leave some of my ideas of love here.

One of the shapes of LOVE I can now come up to my mind is like giving, receiving and forgiving without any secret intention,if the one didn't receive things that the one want from the loved one,the one would not feel unfairness, but forgiveness.Lke never expect the loved one to live up to your expectation.
To be more precise,if there is a couple, doesn't matter if they are homosexual or heterosexual as I am referring any couples here, they could understand what they want or like each other. And they would may know both bad and good sides of the person whom he/she loves. The one would may allow the other to be free rather than to be bound.
Umm...to be simple, the point is sharing without treating the other as possesion, hopefully readers could get it.

The next shape of LOVE is like involving violence,it may sounds wrong to me as it is too warped love when it goes far, though.
In reality, there are some couples keep their relationship interacting violence, like S&M.It may be ok spanking without intention of destroying the other's physical and psychological features. But what if the one utterly collapse the other? The one lose the loved one.The one could not get the same love one even if the one cries or beg to give it back, even if the one obtain another one,the new one is different.
The thing is if domestic violence is one of the ways to show love to Significant other or not, well,I don't think it is the right way as I personally don't like violence, but some people I met in the past saying they hit the other as they wanted me to or sth.I don't know.
I can't help thinking violence as a thing to be used when it comes to protect from exterior danger. It may makes self-destruction if the violence were used inside of the planet we have,i.e,dropping bombs on the earth could be one of the domestic violence.Oops,I have written enough,I guess.I am out of here for now.

Ta ra.
I wanted to talk about ownership and the difference between like and love.

I see may people wanting to own their spouce, is that love. They say, "I love you with all my heart". WTF Bull! What they are really saying is, "I want to own you and don`t see anyone else or I will stop loving you". It is a joke.

Often we don`t even like the person we are said to be "in love" with.
I love hearing "I will love you til I die". . It makes me laugh. I say, "I will love you til I don`t any more." It is honest.

I always have love to give, even to one who I don`t like. I never know if what I percieve as love being given to me is really love or if it is just a ploy to get what that other person wants. I JUST DON`T KNOW!!! No one does. I am sure of only one love, mine!!!
>ケニー

As for ''kill'', I just happened to come up with an
example of love which is not that shallow like you
mentioned. For instance, mercy killing could be a
kind of love. Acutually, there was a tragety in Japan
between aged couple. One husband had looked after his
wife for years till she could not say a word yet she
seemed to be agonized. He couldn't stand it to end
up killing her.
by shallow, i mean simple. people kill for food. people will do anything if they think that it is beneficial or good.
"LOVE...
Is the only energy of value that you can both leave behind as your legacy and take with you to the 'beyond'".

K.R.Gullins 2004

see attached word.doc
I feel that when we are truly there in the moment just feeling love, in whatever experience we may have, there's the moment that you know that translating it isn't necessary. You're just in a 'love zone'. If someone tries to get your attention, you have to step out of it for a second, because you have to put how you're feeling into translation. I like just enjoying the stillness and peace inside that love creates, even if for a moment.
