This one isn't terrible...
I'm not saying it's the most ingenious peice of work ever composed, but it's certainly not the least...

I wrote some bad ones:
His breath stunk badly, like 2 week old steak left uncovered on the kitchen counter.
His wallet was empty like an empty bottle filled with nothing.
The air deodorizer made his room smell flowery, like 1000 grandmas wearing too much perfume.
He was as happy as a depressed person who wasn't depressed anymore.

I am almost positive at least a few of these were actually written by Douglas Adams and appeared in his books. "The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't" sounds awfully familiar, for one. I think it was in one of his Dirk Gently books. It is pretty close to one of his lines that I do remember well enough to at least paraphrase, "He threw himself at the ground and missed, in much the same way a brick wouldn't."
At the least, I think some of these may have been intentionally written in that style.
