Dear Piqniq-ers

What excellent weather we've been having!
Enjoy it while it lasts because before you know it the "rainy season" (Japan's 5th distinct season!) will be upon us and when the clouds break..... the scorching heat of summer.
This is the second edition of The Piqniq Basqet and trust me when I say we feel a lot more experienced this time around. When last month's issue was sent, we prayed to whatever deities we believed in that nothing would break or go wrong. We were dealing with a new system and thousands of e-mail addresses. The pressure was intense when that send button was pressed. Thankfully, the whole process from start to end went smoothly and we are quite pleased with the choice we made.

Site News and Stats
Piqniq has continued to grow at an excellent rate and we celebrated the registration of our 1900th member in the early hours of May 22nd. From April 20th to May 20th, nearly 50% of visits to Piqniq (including non-registered members) were from within Japan with the U.S. coming in at a distant 2nd at approximately 22%. As you may have seen in the News on your HOME page, Piqniq does support tagging now and we urge everyone to tag your blogs, forum posts and directory entries.

In other news, we are in the early planning stages for the next feature upgrade as well and rest assured that all of the member feedback that we have received over the last few months has been taken into consideration.

Introducing "BuyMa"!
FUSION GOL is currently considering the possibility of English-ifying a popular Japanese site called BuyMa (http://www.buyma.com)
The concept is simple. Someone in Country A wants something from Country B. Using BuyMa, the person in Country A can connect with someone in Country B and hire them to send the desired item to Country A. BuyMa allows "Buyers" (people in the target country who buy and then sell products to others) to maintain a profile that showcases items that they can easily obtain for others. Items that can't be found by searching the site can be requested.
We would very much like to know your opinion about such a service and have thrown together a short questionnaire (only 5 questions). If you have just a few moments to provide some feedback it will help us tremendously in our decision to offer this service in the future to English speakers.

Blog & Forum Highlights
And now a recap of some of the more interesting and active blog entries and forum topics from the last few weeks.

ANPANMAN Museum Yokohama OPEN http://piqniq.jp/node/2665 (Blog entry by Jenniejp)
"For those of you with little ones on hand, you might like to check out the ANPANMAN MUSEUM that has just opened in Yokohama. Ever popular with little kids (and bigger kids too), the azuki-filled superhero with a never-ending supply of heads is the theme character for a mall full of 21 stores. There are even play spaces for the kids."

Arts & Crafts Classes in English - Little Artist http://piqniq.jp/node/2864 (Blog entry by ema)
"For those of you living in Tokyo and looking for an hour long art class for children in Ogikubo in English, Little Artist may be something you may want to look into."

Raising Bilingual Children http://piqniq.jp/node/2690 (Forum entry by Jenniejp)
"I'd love to hear everyone's views on raising a bilingual bi-national (that's a nicer way of saying a "half") in Japan or overseas. My daughter is just starting to speak, and since we use mostly Japanese in the home, and she has always been taken (very good) care of at a Japanese "International" Daycare Centre (Hoikuen) where the primary language is Japanese, and there are English speaking teachers on hand, her first words have mainly been Japanese.

What's your Japanese Level? (Poll by Rob)
Piqniq's current Poll asks how well you speak Japanese! Click the link above to see results or cast your vote on http://piqniq.jp/blog on the bottom right side of your screen.
