Fritz died this morning, Sunday, at 8:45. He was outwardly peaceful and seemingly at peace. When he woke briefly around 8, I asked him if he was ok, and he gave me a nod. Shortly after that he just stopped breathing. Thank you all so much for everything you have shared with us during the last 14 months, and before that, of course. He had a wonderful life and I had a wonderful life sharing it with him. 11月18日付のシンダからのメールです。容体がかなり悪くなっていたようです。
Today is the 4 week anniversary of Fritz's last chemo treatment, and the date by which the medical professionals thought we would know whether he was going to be able to shake off the effects of the chemo and get some strength back, or not. I fear it is no longer possible to have any hope of the former. He continues to weaken; he hasn't been out of bed in a week and hasn't been able to eat anything at all for a couple of days. He spends most of each day sleeping and the rest doing a good imitation of it. His voice is very weak so it is difficult for him to communicate; in case you tried to call, that's why his cell phone has been off recently. However, he is, when he's awake, aware of what's going on, able to follow conversations and answer simple questions, recognize his friends and relations, and tell me when he is comfortable and when he is not. He is also able to be awakened at any time so he is not comatose. He is not in any pain thanks to a narcotics skin patch that we change every three days. He has been taking an Advil or two a day when he has pain not handled by the patch but he hasn't even asked for that recently. He is, as they say, resting comfortably and seems to be accepting of his fate.
Both are good qualities in a patient and that makes my job easier. I am still in denial about the outcome and am just enjoying what I can of the time we have left together. My nephew has been coming over most days so I can run errands, go to the office for an hour or two some days, etc. My parents and Fritz's two local brothers have also been regular watchers.ハ Fritz and I have worked at the same law firm for more than 15 years so we have 30 some long-time friends and supporters there, as well as Fritz's car and music buddies around the area. Then have all been caring and attentive.
That's it from here for now. Thank you all for your kind words, phone calls, prayers, good wishes, etc. We appreciate them all.
