As you know, I admire MIYAMOTO Musashi, the splendid swordsman at the beginning of Edo Era. It has been historically true that he went to Kyoto and challenged the head of Yoshioka School there for a duel as part of his own fencing training.
As a result, he had two duels and then one battle against them. The last battle was called Ichijoji Sagarimatsu no Ketto. Musashi fought against several fencers of the school in a place called Ichijoji (一乗寺), currently one of the towns in 左京区, where a big pine tree grew. Still now, there is a big pine tree in this place. The current pine tree is the 3rd or 4th generation of the original one.
When I lived in Kyoto as a college student, I wanted to leave in the ancient capital of Japan something proving that I was in Kyoto studying English very hard. So I decided to make an English version of sign that explains the relationship between Musashi and 一乗寺下がり松.
There is a shrine called 八大神社 close to 一乗寺下がり松.
八大神社 is next to 詩仙堂. When you visit Kyoto, I would recommend you to visit this area, the shrine and the old and traditional building. For your information, ダイアナ妃 and his husband visited 詩仙堂 before when they were a good couple.
This area is very quiet and you can enjoy the real Kyoto atmosphere. If you take a tram at 出町柳, you can visit 一乗寺 very easily.
つまり、a pine tree in 1604, when Musashi fought--とするか
というのは、木で繋ぐと、 つまり、a pine tree, around which Musashi fought--とすると、
★ This ancient piece of wood was a section of a pine tree called "Sagarimatsu" here in Ichijoji in 1604, when the splendid swordsman Miyamoto Musashi fought around it and won the day against the Yoshioka Family, famous for skilled fencers.
Musashi fought against the fencers of Yoshioka at the age of 21 too.
This ancient piece of wood was a part of a pine tree called "Sagarimatsu"(a big spreading pine) around which, in 1604, Musashi MIYAMOTO fought and won the day against the Yoshioka School, famous for skilled fencers.
つまり、-- a pine tree, around which Musashi fought--としても よかったですね その場合は around which, in 1604, Musashi fought と 時間を先に出せばよかったです 〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜
