I have the original LP "Kenton In Hi-Fi" (W)-724, and the CD sounds so much better. However, I do have the album "Kenton In Stereo," which features many of the same tracks, but in two-channel stereophonic sound.
The personnel on these early 1956 recordings are:
* Maynard Ferguson * Shelly Manne * Larry Bunker * Bud Shank - flutes * Paul Shure * Stan Kenton - piano * Mel Lewis - drums * Bill Perkins * Joe Mondragon - bass * Red Mitchell * Jack Nimitz - baritone saxophone * Israel Baker * Armand Kaproff * Milt Bernhart * Pete Candoli * Laurindo Almeida - guitars * Lennie Niehaus - alto saxophones * Sam Noto * Vido Musso - tenor saxophones * Kent Larsen * Bob Fitzpatrick * Kenny Shroyer - trombones * Nathan Ross * Don Bagley * Erno Neufeld * Jim Amlotte * Carl Fontana * Ed Leddy * Kurt Reher * Lou Raderman * Marshall Sosson * Virginia Majewski * Frank Flynn - percussion * Ralph Blaze * Vinnie Tanno * David Frisina - violins * David Sterkin - violas * Eleanor Slatkin * Skeets Herfurt * Dan Lube * Benny Gill * Chico Guerrero
This album contains his early hits in mid-'40s in Hi-Fi (and also Stereophonic) sound. My favorite tunes in this album are Intermission Riff, Painted Rhythm and Eager Beaver.
"Intermission Riff" and "Painted Rhythm" are two of my all-time favorites. I also love, "Artistry in Rhythm" and "Artistry in Boogie." Kenton really had a great band with a endless supply of talent.
