-------------------------------------------------------- A group of 19 conservative groups on Monday reinstated a boycott of Ford Motor Co. cars and trucks because the automaker backed away from a pledge to stop advertising in publications aimed at gays and lesbians.
The proposed yearlong boycott, led by the Tupelo, Miss.-based American Family Association, stems from the groups' belief that Ford has not "remained neutral in the cultural battles." --------------------------------------------------------
So for those conservative folks, "remaining neutral in the cultural battles" means discriminating against gays and lesbians. I am 100% sure they'd have no issue with Ford putting ads on magazines that promote their Christian (therefore not neutral) beliefs. How hypocritical.
I did not know about this news. And although I am not surprised...
I don't understand what American Family Association wants from Ford, aside from cars! (Do they expect Ford to reflect their opnion?!) Obviously, they seem to be hypocritical and culturally biased.
Death is neutral.
If you breath, you are prejudiced.
How can anyoen be neutral.
Purpsoely making ads targeting gays in not neutral.
Conceiving of gays is not neutral.
Marketing is not neutral.
FOr is a corporation with a corporate structure, and the NGOs like Mothers concerned for AMerica, Friends and Family of Ex-Gays, and Gay-straight equality groups are not neutral.
SOme guy (I don't care enough to look it up) wrote a book in 2002 called "if the world were a villiage" in which he gives statistics for the world if the world were 100 people. SInce his categories had to be made by him, and by his sources, his stats are biased.
It is easy to point out the biases of others, but the ability o see our own presumptions is fricken hard.
SO I never talk of neutrality.
All we can do is to have our own subjective view after testing it, and try to get others to see things our way. If one day we change our mind, then we have to go back and tell everyone we were wrong.
What bothers me the most is that those conservative folks seem to believe that they are the only ones that can dectate what it is to be "neutral." It's so freakin' lame. Like I said above, if Ford decided to put ads on a magazine that criticizes homosexuality, they would applaud the action - despite the fact that it is just as non-neutral as the act that the same people are opposing so fiercely.
