Do you think that Chinese will be more important than English?
I do in some meaning. There are 6.2 billion people in the world. More than 20% of them are Chinese. It's unbelievablly much rate. And Chinese economy is growing so rapidly and its very industrial superpower now. There are many products made in China. If u learn Chinese, and work for a company that has something to do with China, you'll get much chance.
I don't in other meaning. In China, there is English education boom. So most peole who wants to work for a major company can speak English well. So if you hav trading partner who can speak English, Chinese language isnt always necessary.
HOW DO U CONSIDER ABOUT THIS TOPIC?

I basically agree with you. The Chinese speaking economies will grow up in the future. When it is much larger than the English speaking economies, will become more important than English.
However, it takes so long time to grow. Environment in China is more papidly getting worse than its economical expansion. Economical expansion isnt growth in economy, in my definition. Nowadays, economical development can't igrore the importance of conservation of the environment. In China, when conservation of environment is much considered, economy will grow in normal speed. Otherwise, china wont be able to grow enough, and economies in other area will grow more.
In short, English will stay the most important language in economical area for more than 20 years.

I believe that English will continue to have power in
business/economies because Chinese people study English
harder than ever for their upcoming important
diplomatic and economic events, the Opimpics and Expo.
I agree that their quite large population is the key!
However I don't expect every citizen communicates
in English. For Chinese people learning English should
be easier than Japanese people as the grammar is similar
to English so we, the rest of the people in the world,
can wait for them to master English in the near future.
For non-Chinese people, learning Chinese is VERY
difficult. Firstly you need to select what type of
Chinese you will study, Mandarin or Kantonnese.
Secondly, Chinese characters.
The very basic daily conversation should be enough to
please Chinese people.
Finally, it is the fact at present that entering into
the contract is carried out in English as this language
is common and clearer in terms and conditions as
western countries have developed the concept of
compliance of laws and regulations.

I agree. It will likely be 20 years or more before Chinese could become
that important, and that is only assuming the Chinese government and
economy avoids any major problems. In the 1980's, there was probably
talk of when the Yen would replace the dollar as the primary currency -
yet Japan hit some troubles. If anything, China's economy is less
open than Japan's, so it is likely at a greater risk for some sort
of major problem.

hmmm...
i am good at sitting on the fence (not the safest place to be!)(and kinda useless, but anyway...) though i believe that China will become an even greater force in the not too distant future, i don't think that it will be strong enough to change the most common language in the world... English. don't forget even non native english speaking countrys use it to communicate to the rest of the world, eg. europe and africa, and even traveling through laos and northern vietnam i was surprised at how much was spoken there too... i am not a fan of english language imperialism, でも ショガナイ!
