2006 National Competitive Examination for WEB DESIGNER/DEVELOPER, P-2
The United Nations is conducting a competitive examination to establish a pool of qualified candidates for upcoming Web Designer/Developer P-2 vacancies. The National Competitive Examination is open to nationals from the following countries: Andorra, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahrain, Barbados, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, Cape Verde, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Israel, Japan, Kiribati, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Liechtenstein, Maldives, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Moldova, Monaco, Norway, Oman, Palau, Panama, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Saint Lucia, Samoa, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Tonga, Tuvalu, United States of America and Viet Nam
Functions: Within the limits of delegated authority, the Web Designer/Developer will be responsible for the following duties: - Web site development: initial project requirements, wire-framing, mock-up, and UI design. - Web site management: site taxonomy, navigation, usability. - Web site design: graphics design and presentation. - Web site programming: web application development and programming including the establishment and programming of databases. - Webcasting: streaming audio and video – process and techniques. The Web Designer/ Developer will support the Web Team with technical skill, creative assistance, constructive feedback QA and production expertise and may perform other duties as assigned.
Eligibility requirements: - Age: Applicants must be 32 years of age or younger by 31 December 2006. - Education: Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in web design and programming and demonstrated proficiency in SQL programming, Interface Design, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; Multimedia and Macromedia Flash; ASP/ASP.NET, HTML; CSS; Active Server Pages; Java, MS-SQL, Dreamweaver, Visual Studio and content management systems. Other relevant studies, such as computer information systems, graphic arts and public information, are also acceptable provided that the applicant can demonstrate at least 3 years' experience in Web design/ production (working with software programmers in a Web-application environment; creating and manipulating existing and original graphic design elements for client web sites using design programmes and various programming languages; maintaining and updating content and graphics on existing Web sites; laying out HTML/ASP web Pages with a database back-end; deploying web sites on Apache or IIS and handling SSLs.; producing comprehensive visuals to give clients conceptual and visual information that will determine the final look and feel of projects, web copywriting and working with streaming media)
