☆NihonJack⇔日本ジャック☆コミュのVideo Game to Learn Kanji/Vocabulary

Along the lines of learning kanji, one thing I find is a stumbling block to learning is that there is mostly no fun involved. It is really pretty boring. I keep thinking in my mind that there must be some fun way to learn Japanese. In fact, I bought a program for Japanese school children to help them learn kanji with the Doraemon themed character, and I've also downloaded some emulated game boy japanese programs that were released in Japan to help people learn kanji/vocabulary (all aimed at native speakers, of course).

I keep thinking that there has to be a fun game idea that could be created. I used to have a typing of the dead program that pushed you to type faster. It was the same game as the House of the Dead, only instead of using a gun to shoot the zombies, you type sentences that appear below them to type them to death. It was a fun game and you could make it very hard - really pushing the speed and complexity of your typing ability. Plus it was fun.

I kind of think something like that would be fun. I am kind of OK at programing and have quite a bit of experience in flash... I may make a long term project of making some kind of learn kanji game.

Let me know what your idea of a fun game would be.

How about some kind of text adventure game, with an interesting story line, and an interface to an edict-based dictionary (or custom subset)?
I have been looking for something similar...
So far I have been using the links on this page:

If you find anything more entertaining, please let me know...
This has free online games in Japanese:

There is a karaoke game that is useful for increasing your reading speed, and your ability to type quickly, for that matter. I haven't tried all of the games, but there are probably others.
This is something more like I was thinking of:

I think I know exactly the kind of game you're looking for...however there's not an interface to a dictionary in it. It's called "Kamaitachi no Yoru." (かまいたちの夜)I highly suggest it. It's a horror/murder mystery, where you can choose actions every so often as you read through the story. It's pretty engaging, and the writing is well done. You can find it on many consoles.... Super NES, PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, Wii's Virtual Console (if you have a Japanese Wii). I just found out now that TBS made a drama based off the game, so that goes to tell you how well made it is, or how popular it was anyway. Chun Soft also made a "sound novel" before this called "Otogirisou" (弟切草)There are some other games as well made by other companies. Hope that helps!
