アメリカの日系男優。

１９３２年６月２８日〜２００５年１１月２４日。

カリフォルニア州生まれ。結核性脊髄炎のため１１歳まで闘病生活を送る。第二次大戦中はアリゾナの日系人の収容所で暮らす。
ハイスクール卒業後、家族を支えるためにコンピュータ関係の会社で技師として働いていたが、一大決心してショービジネスの世界へ入る。サンフランシスコでスタンダップ・コメディの舞台に立ち、やがてＴＶのバラエティ番組やＣＭに出演。
映画デビューは１９６７年の『モダン・ミリー』。『ベスト・キッド』シリーズのミヤギ役でアカデミー助演男優賞にノミネートされた。
２００５年１１月、ラスベガスの自宅にて老衰で死去。享年７３歳。
