コンチネンタル航空（CO）アジア・太平洋地区支社長のチャールズ・ダンカン氏は4月20日の記者懇談会で、スターアライアンスへの加盟は10月25日を予定していると語った。ダンカン氏は「（スターアライアンスへの加盟は）非常に大きなニュース」と語り、スカイチームからの移行作業を「顧客にとって便利になるようにスムーズにしたい」と強調した。
COでは、加盟後に日本市場で全日空（NH）との連携が可能となることなどをメリットとして捉えており、日本以外でもエア・カナダ（AC）とユナイテッド航空（UA）、ルフトハンザ・ドイツ航空（LH）が大西洋路線で実施しているジョイントベンチャー事業「A++」に参画する予定だ。さらに、こうしたジョイントベンチャー事業を、将来的には中南米や太平洋でも展開したい考えという。
日本市場での2009年度の戦略としては、日本発着路線を維持、継続し、さらに路線拡大の機会をうかがう。特に、他社が撤退や減便した市場への拡大を検討する方針で、すでに4月からはグアム／ケアンズ線を増便。同路線では「良い結果が得られている」といい、需要に応じて10月以降も継続する考えだ。このほか、夏期限定で成田／サイパン間の定期チャーター便や関空／グアム線の定期便、ロタを含むチャーター便運航なども予定しており、今後も収益性や需要に応じて増便や新規就航を検討する方針という。
