Study Coordinator, Developmental Genome Anatomy Project (DGAP), BWH

Responsibilities and Duties:
-Coordinates clinical genetic component of DGAP project. Serves as primary contact for individuals from the medical community who send specimens to be studied. Explains study and consent process. Answers questions by phone or email.
- Determines eligibility for study participation. Enrolls patients directly and assists outside clinicians in enrolling patients in DGAP. Explains study aims, obtains informed consent and coordinates sample collection. Processes samples once they arrive in the lab and delivers them to the transformation core.
- Responds to inquiries from clinicians and patients about DGAP study progress. Coordinates feedback of clinically relevant information to referring clinicians and assists in arranging confirmatory testing.
- Gathers and reviews clinical information on patients enrolled in DGAP study. Discusses clinical information with PI of the Clinical Genetics Core, as needed. Coordinates the Clinical Case Conference. Reviews medical literature on a regular basis for cases eligible for DGAP or pertinent to existing DGAP cases.
- As needed, arranges clinical visits for study patients with a medical geneticist. Gathers and reviews medical information, participates in clinical evaluation, and provides proper documentation and follow up.
- Works with the PI of the Administrative Core to identify sources of samples appropriate for DGAP
- Coordinates publicity for DGAP.
- Assists in the development and implementation of data and specimen collection tools.
- Prepares amendments to protocol and annual renewal of the protocol for IRB review.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree in biological or medical science.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Work requires experience with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
- Work requires strong communication skills that allow effective interaction with both medical professionals and patients or families.
- Work requires creativity, efficiency, strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently to organize effectively and implement research project.
- Work requires excellent written communication at both medical and lay levels.
