A common image of Hawaii is of ocean, coconut palms, and Waikiki hotels. But there is much more than that. The Big island of Hawaii is full of history, geological wonders, beautiful landscapes, and a dynamic, vibrant Hawaiian culture. The place is said to have rejuvenating powers, not only for the senses, but for the spirit, too. This seminar will give you a little taste of the unique background of the country, which is now officially US territory, but unofficially, a land of its own: We will be discussing the following topics.
1. A general historical overview of the island.
2. Hawaiian folktales heritage.
3. Hawaiian culture and tradition
4. Nature and food; Hawaiian cuisine
5. Hawaiian multiculturalism and languages.
Henry VIII, one of Britain's most colorful kings,
〜ヘンリー8世戴冠500周年を記念して〜
This year, the people of England and Wales are celebrating the 500 hundredth anniversary of the coronation of Henry VIII.
A brilliant, sensitive and athletic young man, schooled in Humanism by his famous tutor, Sir Thomas More, Henry was expected to be a shining model of the ideal Renaissance prince. In fact, he turned into a lecherous tyrant who executed two of his own wives, and plunged his country into religious conflict that still echoes today.
It may seem odd to celebrate the life of such a despot, but the lives of the villainous are nearly always more fascinating than those of the virtuous, and Henry’s was particularly interesting.
In this English salon, we shall examine the life of Henry VIII, through lecture, video and music.
