Vanilla Sky

I saw "Vanilla Sky", a 2001 American science fiction psychological thriller film directed, written, and co-produced by Cameron Crowe.
Starring Tom Cruise, Penélope Cruz, and Cameron Diaz.
It is an English-language adaptation of 1997 Spanish film "Open Your Eyes", directed and written by Alejandro Amenábar, with Penélope Cruz reprising her role from the original film.
It received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, Paul McCartney (for the song "Vanilla Sky") as well as Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Award nominations for Diaz's performance.
Box office is $203.4 million.

Tom had worked with Cameron Crowe in the film "Jerry Maguire", and Cameron Diaz in "Knight and Day".

It was difficult for me to understand, even seeing twice.
But it was excellent art of work that gives us a chance to think various thoughts, such as "Dream", "Reality warp" or "life", "exsitence and illusion".
In that respect, this is a special film for me.

The story is----
David Aames is the owner of a large publishing company he inherited from his father.
He is rich, young, handsome and flirtatious.

But when he is introduced to Sofia Serrano by his best friend, Brian Shelby, during a party, he falls in love with her at first sight.
For him, it was "The true love", unlike many other love affairs.

David and Sofia spend the night together at Sofia's apartment and fall in love each other.
But one of David's lovers, Julie Gianni, find their love
and Julie offers him a ride, and reveals her jealousy of Sofia. She purposely crashes the car, killing herself and drastically disfiguring David.
Doctors cannot completely repair David's face.
That is scarred and he becomes a monster-looking.
David wears a prosthetic mask around others, but the mental and physical scarring from the accident causes him to get depressed.
He offends Brian and Sofia because of his sadness and they leave him.
But Sofia returns to David and apologizes to him.
She takes him home, and over time, helps David emotionally recover.
Doctors find a way to surgically repair David's face despite their prior prognosis.
While David's life seems perfect, he notices strange things, such as brief visions of his distorted face.
Moreover, a man tells David that he could control the world and everyone in it.
And while at Sofia's, David wakes up to find himself facing Julie.
He is too confused and shocked that he strangles Julie. David is arrested and imprisoned, and finds his face no longer reconstructed and he's wearing the mask again.

The story is going on like this.
And you know, what I was shocked is that David has been sleeping and dreaming for 150 years!
All those happy life with Sofia was all his dream.
"Life Extension" did it, usig cryonics suspension to save those with terminal illnesses until a cure can be found, keeping them in a lucid dream.
Is it wonderful? "Life Extension", a little scary,though.
Using it, you could live forever.
Or you can set the time to wake up as you like---50 years later, 100, 200 or even 1,000 years later.
It's fascinating, is it? A little scary, though.
When you wake after 100 years sleep, no one who you know
is alive.
But you would be able to know and see the future.

By the way, David is given two options by the company of
Life Extension.
he has a choice of either being put back into the dream, or to be woken up in reality while they have fixed his lucid dream.
Which does David choice?

It was one of the most difficult stories to understand,
but very interesting story giving us a chance to think many things.
Time, life, love, reality and dream....
Which one is the truth?
The world of reality or in the dream?
And who you really are?

By the way, "Top Gun: Maverick" is coming soon, beginning on May 27th.
I found lately, young actors also pilot themselves, not only Tom cruise in the movie.
Tom mad a curriculum for them to train.
That's amazing.
Tom made them to be able to do that.
And I heard that you can virtual experience to fly yourself, staying in a cockpit.
That must be exciting.
Let's fly with them.
