War of the Worlds

I saw the movie, "War of the Worlds", a 2005 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Josh Friedman and David Koepp.
It's based on the 1898 novel by H. G. Wells with the same title.
Starring Tom Cruise with Dakota Fanning, Justin Chatwin, Miranda Otto, and Tim Robbins with narration by Morgan Freeman.

Box office is $603.9 million. Too big hit!
Movies directed by Spielberg & starring Tom Cruise are the best combination.

The story is about that extraterrestrials invade the Earth and devastate.
It has similar situation to "Oblivion" starring Tom Cruise.
They are jealous of human and try to steal all from us.
I'm interested in seeing or thinking how people act when you encounter disaster or catastrophe.
Human beings have survived all critical phases for a long time and became the lord of creation.
But when facing crises, some people die while others survive.
What type of people can survive or not?
And what kind of person save people from the crises?
Seeing and thinking about this is really interesting.

Story is---
Earth was being observed by extraterrestrials with high intelligence.
Massive "tripod" war machines emerge from the ground and uses powerful energy weapons to destroy large cities
all over the world.

Divorced dock worker Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) works as a crane operator at a dock in Brooklyn, New York.
His former wife Marry Ann forces him to look after their children, 10-year-old daughter Rachel, and teenage son Robbie on the very day of invading by ET in their city.
He looks just an ordinary person but becomes the key person to fight the aliens.

Another interesting character is Harlan Ogilvy (Tim Robbins) who is suffering from nervous exhaustion.
Ray and Rachel are offered a shelter in a basement by Harlan as Robbie joins the futile fight against the aliens.
Harlan suffers a mental breakdown upon witnessing the
horrible scene that aliens kill people and suck their blood.
They are harvesting human blood and tissue to fertilize the alien vegetation.
He completely loses his mind and loses his life.
Being panic causes him the death.

I see some facts.
Many people who are panicked when you face crises tend to lose their lives
While people who keep staying calm and think to deal with a tense situation have much chances to survive.

After Harlan was dead, a tripod finds Ray and Rachel and
Rachel is caught.
Ray purposely throws grenades to the tripod and makes himself get caught.
Then in the tripod Ray eventually uses the grenades to destroy it with help of other people kidnapped.

Seeing this movie, the relationship of Ray and his children aroused my interest.
They look like friends rather than parent and children.
The kids are acting as if they are on an equal footing with their father.
That fascinated me.
Kids act as if they hate the father, but I see they actually like him very much.
But if other actor performed the role, Ray, I won't feel like so, I guess.
Tom is really special actor.

In the end, Ray finds some very important fact about the
aliens and tripod.
He was almost killed by them, still he doesn't lose his mind and keeps observe them.

There are some people who can keep thinking while facing
crises or disaster.
Those people have helped us- human survived so many phases in every era, I think.

To tell the truth, the aliens have a fatal weakness to live on the earth.
That's their immune systems can't handle the countless microbes that inhabit the Earth, which "God in His wisdom".
They perished naturally.
And this story tells us "Don't be panicked when you encounter some disaster"
