Interview with the Vampire

I saw a movie, "Interview with the Vampire",it's my third time.
Actually, It's not the rental, I have this DVD.
It's released in 1994 and derected by Neil Jordan
and starred by Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
It's based on Anne Rice's 1976 novel of the same name.
This film got a Oscar nomination for Best Art Direction.

Woman author!
She also wrote this scenario.
Box-office is $223.7 million, a big hit.

When I saw this film at first, what was impressive for me was Brad Pitt's abnormall beatifulness.
But at the same time, I felt healthy looking guy like brad Pitt permances vampire was out of place.
His image is too healthy, tough guy to play vampire.
I thought so at the early stage.
But as soon as he had appeared, the idea was gone.
His aristocratic atmosphere and narration with deep , reflective voice just fit the post.

There are many vampire films and people playing vampire have several common points.
Say, "aristocratic, intellectual, sexless and abnormal beauty".

Then, Tom Cruise!
I was suprised to see him in this movie.
he has gotten his image as a handsome, cute guy, I've guessed.
But in this movie, he transformed horrible looking
monster.
It's a short while, though.

This movie is made with magnificent line up.
Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt, Brad Pitt as Louis de Pointe du Lac, Christian Slater as Daniel Molloy and Kirsten Dunst as Claudia, Antonio Banderas as Armand, Stephen Rea as Santiago, etc.

I thought the author who wrote this story seems like
have been influenced of Shakespeare.
Narration and each lines are poetic and aesthetic.
Music by Elliot Goldenthal is also moving.
It received Oscar nominations for Best Original Score.
And theme song is The Rolling Stones's "Sympathy for the Devil", rock music.
Classical and rock---those combination is good.
The last scene of a vampire driving on the Golden gate bridge with rock music is impressive.

Every scene is made of night time.
The bassment of a deserted house, coffins, bodies of animals, people's death killed by vampires
and their red, blood dripping mouths----.
They are all horrible but at the same time they are
erotic and aesthetic.
You would be fasinated by them.

But Louis is always bothered between two things.
The instinct as a vampire which wants to suck human blood and a moral sense he can't kill people.
And Lestat isn't troubled with such a thing.
He just enjoys killing people and sucking blood with aristocratic cruelty.
Compares to him, Louis is so human.
And always surrering from desire to suck human blood
and guilty feeling.

There, he meets Claudia, cute little girl.
At the moment, he jumps at her neck without guilty
feeling, loosing his mind by huge desire to suck her blood.
What a scene!

Lestat gives her a new life after that.
As a little vampire.
And she becomes eternal child---never grow.
I was really interested in this little girl.
After thirty years, she still small but how about
her mind?
She must have been growing.
You will see it.
And her feeling for these two men?
It's mysterious and interesting.

But anyway two guys take care of her as parents and
she relies on them.
But she wants to be adult figure.
Because of that, she starts to hate Lestat and wants
to kill him.
That's a big mystery.
Why Lestat?
She can't hate Louis----why?
Does she love him? As a protector? Or---?
But she is just a ten-year-old kid.
Interesting.
Kirsten Dunst was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role.

The most interesting one is Louis to me.
He is very human even after becoming a vampire.
And he strongly keeps conscience as a human.
He cannot be an entire bad guy and distresses by desire of sucking human's blood.
He cannot kill people.
Only love saves him.
But----

Always thinking what is life? Is there any happiness
or hope?

I wonder how they assign parts to actors?
Louis's caractor is very close to Brad, I think.
They see through each actor? Into their mind?
I think if Tom and Brad swiched their roles, this film would be failure.

Brad cannot be bad and it gives him weakness like
Louis.
Hollywood makers are stunning.
