イギリス映画に欠かせないステキ女優。
1960年5月24日　英国イングランド、コーンウォール・Redruth生まれ。
Her father was a pilot for the British Royal Navy and died in a flying accident in 1964. Her stepfather was also a pilot and died six years later under similar circumstances. Her childhood home was Dorset, England. She left at the age of 19 to work as an au pair in Paris. She is currently married to François Oliviennes, a French obstetrician. They live in a 19th century country house with their children, Hannah, Joseph, and George.

８６年「プリンス／アンダー・ザ・チェリー・ムーン」で映画デビュー。８８年「ハンドフル・オブ・ダスト」でヨーロッパ映画祭女優賞、９４年「フォー・ウェディング」でＢＡＦＴＡ助演女優賞などを受賞。生活感を感じさせる演技に定評がある。
19歳でフランスに移った。フランス人医師と結婚し、三児ある。女優のセレナ・スコット・トーマスは妹。
