TALKDEMONIC is KEVIN O'CONNOR playing drums, synths, pianos, programming beats, bass, accordion, banjo, guitar, rhodes, wurlitzer and everything else sounds...and LISA MOLINARO on viola and synths.
TALKDEMONIC began in December '02 as a recording project taken on by KO, as a way of expressing an obsession with instrumental hiphop and electronic music. The first Talkdemonic album, mutinysunshine was recorded over the period of a year in the combination of his basement space (talknumeric), bedroom, at SKY ONION studio, and finally tracked out in Jan '04 at MIRACLE LAKE studio with Skyler Norwood turning the knobs. The result was an aurally sprawling pallette of style-bending songs that somehow ceaselessly concluded a years worth of recording and contributed to the burgeoning genre of folktronic music.
After finishing the album in Feb '04, Portland upstart and currently-flourishing indie label LUCKY MADISON decided to issue the record. Soon after its release in April '04, TD hit the road for a month-long tour with LM family member MODERNSTATE heading as far east as St. Louis, and as far south as El Paso, Texas.
After big shows in July at pdxpop, totalfest, and with Portland faves the Joggers and Menomena, the TD record began to make its rounds in some stereos across the US. In August '04, a westcoast tour was in the cards and a college radio campaign with FANATIC.
In Jan '05 LUCKY MADISON released mutiny sunshine on blue vinyl, a thing of beauty. TALKDEMONIC is currently finishing up the follow-up tentatively titled beat romantic slated to be released on ARENA ROCK RECORDING CO. on March 21st, 2006.
TALKDEMONIC was named Portland's BEST NEW BAND 2005 by the Willamette Week, and toured with Brooklyn's THE NATIONAL and MENOMENA down the west coast in June '05.
TALKDEMONIC has toured with CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH, THE NATIONAL, SCOUT NIBLETT, and will be heading out for a west coast tour this April with QUASI, followed by another national tour in JUNE doing some shows alongside THE WALKMEN.
