I will first write about skateboarding since that is what I am most familiar with. There are three basic types of skateboarding: flatland, vertical, and slants.
Slants are best described as ditches. Full pipes are related to vertical. There are two types of skateboarders, one that overpower their boards and always have control over their boards.
These skateboarders have most fun manipulating what the board does beneath them. And then there are the ones who let the board control them.
They are more like kamikaze skaters or daredevils who seek out thrills and go for the one of a kind trick, or search out spots that are new and different or unique.
Both of these types of skateboarders are important for the development of the sport, although I perceive skateboarding to be an art form and a means of expression.
This is how I relate it to poetry slants,straights,transitions,verticals-all are the surfaces that the skateboarder choose to use.
These are skateboarding's basic underlying elements. In my poetry I try to break down a thought or an idea to its core element or else place the reader into a time and place the he or she may not be familiar with. This is the book of poems. The poems are in the center of straights and verticals where no slants transition exist; it is the most protected place. Sincerely, I hope enjoy the work.
