1950年4月27日　インドJamshedpur生まれ
1952年よりドイツKarlsruheに戻り学業を始める。
1961年からロシア人ピアニストIrene Slavinに師従。
1969年よりパリで伝説的ピアニストVlado Perlemuterの元で学ぶ。

1969年 the Geneva Competition 第二位
1973年 the Van Cliburn Competiton 第二位
1975年 the Ravel Competition 優勝
数々の国際的ピアノコンクール入賞後、ピアニストとして活動を始める。

1992年より本格的に指揮者活動を開始。

the Radio Philharmonie Hannover
など多くの国際的オーケストラにゲスト指揮者として客演。

2000年よりthe Orchestre de Chambre de LausanneのArtistic Director/Principal Conductorとして就任。
2002年よりthe Goteborgs SymfonikerのPrincipal Guest Conductorとして就任。古典物のレパートリー専門音楽監督として活動。
2005年the New York Philharmonicとのデビューで高い評価を得た。
2010年よりSt-Paul Chamber OrchestraのNew Artistic Directorとして就任する。

1997年までEMI社の元で多くのCDをリリース。
1998年からDabringhous and Grimm社の元でピアニストとしてだけでなく指揮者として多くのCDを制作中。

2008年5月、La Folle Journee au Tokyoにスイス・ローザンヌ室内音楽団を引き連れて出演され、大好評のうちに公演を終えられました。
