I know it's a really dumb question but here goes..
My address bar in Internet Explorer has somehow managed to disappear on me! I have no idea how to get it back... does anyone know how to make it appear again??
Secondly, I have a Sony Vaio laptop, that I've had for about 2 years now, which keeps freezing up on me. I've heard that Vaios tend to do this after a while. Is this true? Or do I have some nasty virus eating away at my computer?
Hey! It's a question I can handle! :) You just have to go under the
"view menu"
then select "toolbars"
and under "toolbars" you'll see a variety of toolbar options. Just check the address bar option.
I think a lot of windows software menus are fairly intuitive, but if you have a problem finding a specific instruction or function that "help" option also works quite well.
I've heard viaos can become bad for freezing, but having a packed hard drive memory can really slow your computer down. You can also try getting rid of icons on your desktop that aren't essential for you.
Try creating a folder on your desktop to put programs that you use infrequently into. You can do spybot checks with Adaware SE (free spyware remover) virus checks, clean up your temp files, and defragment your hard drive. Your computer should run noticeably faster once you do all these things.
If you are on the internet a lot, you could probably check for spyware everyday and find something new eating at your computer speed (maybe I need new spybot software and better firewall protection).
I'm glad Guchi is here. I have no clue when it comes to Internet Explorer.
As for Vaio computers, I keep hearing about this "Sony bomb," which presumably explodes on any Sony product after a year or two. I'm not sure there's any truth to it, though. I've used a lot of Sony products in the past, including a couple of Vaio laptops. Only one of them has come with a Sony bomb so far. :)
Thanks Guchi!
It's back! All I had to do was drag it down coz it had minimised. I had to check the ツールバーを固定するbutton (my comp's in J so I dunno what it would say in English).
I think my hard drive is chockers. It's full of Scrubs episodes and movies! I should really get it all on a disk. I'll try what you suggested.
die hard>
I hope the bomb doesn't explode coz I can't afford to buy another one!
I wonder what brand of computers is the best in terms of longevity?
My own computer is getting packed full of snapshots and camera video files. Getting that stuff onto a couple copies of CD's is next on my computer maintenance list of things to do.
I hope there's some free software to fix any vaio bombs out there.
Bombs are hardware. Software usually can't fix hardware defects, though it may be able to hide them for awhile. :)
If you have a lot of things to back up, it may be a good idea to invest into a DVD burner drive. You can get a good one for less than $40US. Blank DVD media are getting very cheap, too (i.e. less than 25 cents per disc).
