if you want to come to tokyo, from july with student visa, some schools have july intake. actually i am working at japanese language school in japan, so that if you have any question about pre-college visa (visa for japanese language school), maybe i can help you to get some info...

anyway, as long as you can get temporary visiting visa, you can come to japan a bit earlier than your student visa (pre-college or college) starts and you can change your visa status in japan

if you wants to travel around after you get student visa, it won't be very nice... as your attendance rate is very important in japan if you want to prolong your student visa to complete your course. (pre-college visa is half year or one year)

so, basically, what i have to do is to get myself both a student visa AND A tourist visa if i want to go earlier?
or do i go as a tourist, and while IN japan, i'd need to change my visa to student? (wouldn't i have to leave the country before?)

as for attendance, i'd do all of my travelling before school starts, because when school starts, i would focus all of my attention to studying what i've learned... i need to pass this japanese course so i can enter architecture school, also in japan...

can you tell me more about this pre-college visa? i've never heard of it before, it sounds exactly like what i need ^^

well... I think what she means by pre-college is a visa for students undertaking a course which is taken before college, not a visa to enter japan "Pre" college ^_^

That's true. There are 2types of studnt visa in Japan; "pre-college" and "college". "college" visa is for University and college, the "pre-college" visa is for students undertaking course which is just like Japanese Language Coures. Therefore, the students who come to Japanese language Schools apply for pre-college visa.

Pre-college visa has certain times to come to Japan, which is July, October, January and April. At this time, it is the time to apply July intake visa (due date is March 29, at the immigration) Usually, the application due date is about 4-5months before the course starting date.

If you apply for July intake visa to any Japanese language schools now, you'll get Certificate of eligibility from Japan immigration at the end of May. Most of Brazilian can get 90days temporary visiting visa for tourist. So that you apply for July visa now, and come to Japan in April, then you can change your visa status from temporary visitor to pre-college student in Japan, without going out of Japan.

This is same for October intake. The October visa duedate is the middle of May, so that you apply for school by the duedate and come to Japan in July. Then you will get certificate of eligibility from japan immigration at the end of July, then you can change your visa status in Japan.

Some schools have only April and October intake, so that please check if you want to apply for July visa.

You'll have 90days before the course starting, and you can study full year from your pre-college visa. (you can prolong the visa up to 2years)

i see oO so the one im applying for is the pre-college visa...?
im going to study japanese for a year, or a year and a half, then when im done, i'll begin architecture...

Well, I haven't been there yet but I can tell that the triad "Nara, Osaka, Kyoto" is pretty worthy of a visit. The temples, all those historical places and natural scenario is wonderful in my point of view :)
(But I'm a bit of a partial one because as I'm going to study there I've been doing a some research on the places I'm going to stay, namely Osaka and Nara)
