Recently I watched an interesting TV drama. It was nonfiction. The main person of this drama is a middle- aged man, and he is now an associate professor of Tokyo University. He studies and teaches welfare.
He has become blind for a disease when he was 8 years old. Moreover he has become deaf when he was 18 years old. And so now he is blind and deaf, but he can speak. Maybe he had been depressed seriously, but he has begun to learn welfare. Now he has made a speech about his experience.
What is the method of his communication? It's from fingers to fingers. It's a difficult method, but there are several interpreters. In the drama a female was an interpreter. She touched his fingers with her fingers. This action has many meanings.
A young woman listened to his speech, and she hoped to learn this communication method. She was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, and graduated from Hiroshima University. She has been interested in welfare, and lived in Tokyo.
Presently she has become his interpreter, and married him. She wrote a book of her life after marriage. Her life with him has been difficult. In a way she was hands and legs of him. Finally she thought that she wasn't bearable.
She talked with her brother. Her brother said,“Do you think that you help him? He is a handicapped person, and so he needs your help. But it's your pride.”
Her husband said,“You are not my maid. I need you, because I want to live with you. If you want to rest, you can sleep sufficiently. You are my wife.”
I thought deeply about this drama. I'm married, but do I think that my wife is an equal partner? I'm uncertain about it. I can see and hear, but I think that it's usual. I should thank for my wife and my physical condition.
