なんちゃって英語・英会話コミュのA craftsman

One patient has come to my clinic sometimes. He is
about 75 years old. He is a craftsman of carpentries.
He has made dishes of wood. His works are wonderful.
Dishes are thin, and the grain is beautiful. His
father was also a craftsman, and he has succeeded.

Now he is famous, and he has received many prizes until
now. But he doesn't put on airs at all. He is very
frank. He tells many interesting things to us. He has
made many works of art. Of course they are valuable,
but they aren't necessaries for daily life. They are
expensive, and only few people buy them. It's
difficult for him to make a living by only works of art.

He says with a laugh that an expert is usually poor.
And so he makes daily necessaries. He is an artist
and a merchant. He says that both art and business are
difficult. He should study wood, design, trend and
business. He knows huge things. He is a true
professional.

His son is an office worker, and so his technique will
end in the near future. It's difficult now that
Japanese traditional technique will continue, for
example Japanese paper. Maybe there are many same
things. If we don't use them in our daily life, they
will disappear. I think so.

Your story makes me very sad.

I think "both art and business are difficult".
It needs special technique and time, so it is expesive for ordinary people.

Special art is very beauty.
From a few years ago, I think I want to have my eyes which I can recognize traditional technique.
Because I'm not rich, I can only watch and can't buy.

In future, I want to buy traditional something as my like.

Thank you for your message. I agree with you. Of course
only few persons can buy traditional Japanese works,
but now many Japanese people don't have interest in
such Japanese traditional works.

Especially young people like new western technology.
By the way we should have more concern for traditional
Japanese works. I think that it's a first step in the
right direction. See you later.
When I read this topic, I remember that sentence "温故知新".

Please tell us your knowledge for Japanese traditional on this community more.
