This e-mail is being sent to fewer than 20 people, so please don’t ignore it and think that someone else will help. PETA―and animals―need everyone on this list to pitch in and make the below events possible. This coming June, PETA Asia-Pacific staffers will be visiting Japan for two demos―one in Osaka and one in Tokyo. On Thursday, June 14, we’ll be hosting a demo at an Osaka KFC to protest against KFC’s refusal to eliminate the worst abuses that chickens suffer in the factory farms and slaughterhouses of its suppliers, including crippling injuries because of cruel breeding practices and the overuse of drugs, having their throats slit while they are still conscious, and being dunked into tanks of scalding-hot water while they are still alive and able to feel pain.
On Friday, June 15 we’ll be coming to Tokyo to encourage consumers to boycott Burberry over the company’s decision to continue to sell fur―a decision that results in the severe crowding of animals in barren wire cages for their entire lives before the animals are killed in the most horrific ways imaginable, including strangulation, gassing, and anal electrocution. Some animals are skinned alive. Other animals caught in steel-jaw traps suffer so much pain that some actually chew off their limbs in order to escape. Since they are unable to eat, keep warm, or defend themselves against predators, many die in horrible ways before trappers arrive to kill them. Others suffer in the traps for days until they are caught and killed.
We need your help to make these demos successful! Please contact me if you’re able to help in any of the following ways or know someone who can:
* We need a volunteer who speaks Japanese to attend our demos in Osaka (June 14) and Tokyo (June 15). The volunteer would be assisting us in speaking to the public and the media. If you’re not comfortable speaking to the media, we’d love to have you help by passing out leaflets. * We need volunteers who can make follow-up calls in Japanese to media outlets. The calls need to be done on the afternoon before and/or the morning of the demo. The calls are very simple and are just intended to verify that the media outlet has received our news release. We are grateful for any help with media calls―even five calls can make a big difference! * We need volunteers who can translate our news releases and question and answers sheets from English to Japanese. This would need to be done a week or two before the demo. * We need a volunteer who can check out KFC locations in Osaka before we arrive to make sure that they are suitable for demos.
Please reply to this e-mail for more information about any of these projects.
