Kids World 二日目：
フクロウのカードを見せて、
Hiro : This is an OWL! (英語で発音すると「アオー」)
動物がいっぱい載っている本を見せて、
Hiro : Where is the OWL?
キッズ：青色の箇所をさして、
KIDS : 「OWL!（アオー）」
微笑ましいです。さあ！昨日のリーディングの訳です！
Elephant RopeAs a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
1人の男が象の横を通り過ぎていると、大きな身体の象の前足にロープがくくり付けられているのを見て不思議に思い足を止めました。鎖でもなければ、檻でもない。象が逃げようと思えばいつでも逃げれるのは明らかなのに、彼らはそうしませんでした。
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
彼は調教師をが近くにいるのを見て彼になぜ象そこに立っているだけで、逃げるそぶりを見せないのかを尋ねました。調教師はこう言いました。「象が子供の時に同じサイズのロープを使っていて、その頃はそのロープでも象が逃げない様にするには十分だったんだよ。大きくなっても彼らは逃げられないと信じている。そのロープが彼らをまだつなぎ止めていると信じているから逃げようとしないのさ。」
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.
男はびっくりしました。いつでも逃げれるのに逃げれないと信じているゆえに象達は身動き捕れないでいるのです。
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?
この象の様に私達の中にどれだけ、1度失敗したからと行って出来ないと信じ込んでいる人がいるでしょう？
Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.
失敗は学びの一環です。私達は戦う事をあきらめるべきではないのです。どうでしたか？次回も乞うご期待！
