Hirsi Ali, the Somalian born Dutch MP who fought to limit immigration in Holland and who whilst making a controversial film about Islam suffered the murder of the film's director, has given a news conference after admitting that she lied about her own background.
She had said that she was fleeing an arranged marriage in Somalia but investigative journalists discovered nothing of the sort happened to her.
Immigration Minister has said that in her view Ms Hirsi Ali's lies about her name and age make her Dutch citizenship - granted in 1997 - invalid
The MP has now announced her resignation from parliament and is to leave the country, "saddened but relieved".
