According to the Register-Guard, Nov. 5, 2010: University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will undergo surgery later this month, the university reported Friday.
The cancer was caught in an early stage and Lariviere, 60, is expected to make a full recovery. The operation will take place Nov. 15 and he will be out about two weeks before returning to work, a UO spokesman said.
Provost Jim Bean will handle day-to-day management of the university during Lariviere’s absence, which will take place over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The cancer was detected during a recent routine medical exam.
I really hope he will completely recover and be getting back to the campus
