there are many places to visit here in japan... and the choices will probablly depend on the which season u are going to visit

if u want to see old school japan,u must visit the country side, like shikoku, kyushu, and the tohoku area. Ive heard Hokkaido is a really nice place as well, but will be very cold in the winter so u might want to wait till spring to visit there.

For your transportation, it will all depend on the expenses u have, but the cheapest and the fastest way is proablly the railpass for foreigners, forgot how it works, but i have heard it is very cheap. As for hotels, there arent too many cheap lodging in japan so u may want to use the youth hostels all over japan, in order to save up money for other activities.

Btw, my fav. places i have visited in japan, are Okinawa, Itsukushima Jinjya (near Hiroshima), Matsushima(near sendai)... have a good one!! :)
Definitely use the JR pass, for like 28000yen you can ride all the JR trains, including the shinkansen (bullet train), as much as you want. So, this can take you to places like Kakunodate in Akita which I heard is really nice.

My favorite city in Japan so far is Kyoto. It has awesome temples like kiyomizudera, the golden pavilion and higashi honganji but it also has a very cool night life. Tokyo can be *too* big sometimes. Kyoto feels like "old" japan :)
One down side, is that kansai-ben is really hard for foreigners to understand.
THANKS A LOT
This information have a great help on me.
but I am a little nervous that can I use English to
talk to normal people if I need help or have a question?
= =...
If I were you, I would be nervous as you...
but the important thing when one traveler travels is the sence of comunication.

surely we,japanese, are not good at english.the other languages either. but we always welcome to the traveler.
every single year many travelers visit to japan from all over the world.
so...you never mind.and Don't hesitete.
Don't think about your lunguage advantige.

when you need some help, when you would like to comumicate, absolutely anyone will help you.
Many signs in Japan are written bilingually, so it'd be helpful when you got lost.
Of course, anyone near you will help you.
I recommend you to have a handy English-Japanese tourist dictionary with you.

Anyway, take it easy~.
Oh, and you can always communicate by writing out (or typing out on your cell phone/PDA) what you need/want (to ask) in Chinese characters, as there's a huge overlap of Chinese characters used in both Japan and Taiwan.

A friend of mine actually got through mainland China by writing out lots of questions and requests just with Chinese characters on a notebook.
I'm MASA, living in Okinawa, we're not so far each other , aren't we? Nice to talk to you!

Talking about me, I want to go to KYOTO!! again & again.
Kyoto is very spiritual place. It's hard for me to explain how it is, but I'm sure.

But, recently I began to think like this,,, there are to many good places to enjoy, so "just move your body & soul",I said to myself.

anyway, Kyoto!!
thanks for many good Japaness here~
I plan to go to Kyoto this year~
Cause I don't have a much money, and is these any
cheaper hotel or like home hotel(民宿)-
I don't know if you understand this chinese word!!
And do I need to make a reservation ?
And do you have any more suggestions ~
thanks a lot~^^
>BEN

I've been Kyoto 5times since I was in junior high.
School trip, Company training trip, Visiting my cousin, Visiting my fried (2times, but he moved to amamiooshima(奄美大島)!!),,,
So I've never choose hotel or 民宿. I'm sorry I have no idia of recommendable hotel.

But! As かえる さん said, Kyoto in autumn season is so beuitiful!!
In Okinawa we don't have 紅葉(ko-yo-:autumn colours), so I strongly want to go kyoto to see 紅葉 again!

I hope you will enjoy your trip in Japan!
Dear Japanes Friends:
It's me again~
I want to ask that if my schedule is delayed to
12/2~12/6
Can I see the read leaf 紅葉 in Kyoto ?
or it will be all fall down on december?
Anyone who live near by,please give me a suggestion?
P.S. are the typhoon and earthquake effect the natural
views near kyoto?
Thank you very very much~~~
BEN, unfortunately I don't think you can enjoy 紅葉 in the days.
All the leaves must be fallen.
Still, it's good to visit.
Make sure you prepare for coldness.

Take care.
BEN, If you prefer to come to Japan,
I would recommend to purchase Japan Rail-pass before you leave your country.
You can use Japan RailPass for Bullet train (shinkansen). I love Hokkaido for it is Japan's dairy place.
I also like Nagoya, for I live there. Gero hot springs is not so bad. Kyoto is a good place for Japanese architecture, and Kobe for westernized city of Japan.
