Hi, everyone! I had many chances to talk to Americans at my husband's relative's wedding held in Oaf, Hawaii. I would like to share my experience communicating with them. I thought it is very important to have confident and positive attitude as a second language speaker. I was very happy when I initiated to talk to a lady from San Diego whom I met for the first time. Also, I felt quite excited when I could communicate with 92 year old grandmother of my Husband's cousin. I followed my this year's resolution that I improve my socializing skills. Actually, I felt like jumping over the studio in Kiyomizudera in Kyoto when I talked to the lady from San Diego. She was so happy to talk together with me. I learned a lot about "quilting" from her. The grandmother was not used to talk to foreigners. Therefore, I felt very good that I could communicate with her. She even invited me to her house in San Diego. I felt honored. Well, one thing I learned was that I should be a good listener and respond to them well. Often people even Japanese want to talk to me/you their stories. When your opinion is Different from your friends, just be true to yourself and tell your thought politely. Well, everyone, hope you find chances to talk to English speakers. Try to be confident and positive always. Michi from Hawaii
