Have you ever learnt English in a foreign country?
I know each English speaking countries have their own accents because they have gotten their cultures or backgrounds.
I used to stay in NZ and get confused by the KIWI accent. But then after 1 and half year, I was used to hearing and speaking it.
Now, I unconciously speak like a Kiwi. But unfortunately, foreigners who speak English arround me are mostly American. They hardly understand what I say and sometimes make fun of me!
Have you gotten such an experience? I want to know the detail if you had.
i really understand it.
when i was in canada, my teachers were from different english speaking countries such as england, america, ireland and even india. sometimes their own accents made my listening more difficult. but it was fun to enjoy chatting with them after lessons.
in my case i was taught how to speak in the american way. so it's kinda "MAJOR" and might not have that many problems like you do.
like you said you lived in NZ and got the KIWI accent, and maybe if you are gonna have a long stay in another native english speaking country, i guess the accent would get influenced again.
interesting stuff, when i talk to my KANSAI buddies, somehow my accent sounds strange, you know what i mean, huh?
