Hi everyone. Sorry to be so late in making a new topic.
I hope everyone is doing well and living your life 110% ^_^
Today I want to introduce some phrases that use the word "dying". Americans are very very dramatic, so we use the word ”dying” often to express our feelings, for good and bad things. ^_^
1) Do or Die/此処一番
Ichiro had 3 balls, 2 strikes, in the 9th inning. It was a do or die moment for the Mariners.
2) Never say die/ ネバーギブアップ ^_^
Even if I am losing the game and things seem so difficult, I will always try hard! Because I am a never say die kind of person.
3) To die for/ 一番素敵な物を考える/見る
That piece of cake looked so delicious, and it's taste was to die for!
She was so beautiful!! She had a face to die for. ^_^
4) Cross my heart and hope to die/ 本気な約束
Cross my heart and hope to die, I promise to be nicer to you from this moment.
5) Curl up and die/鬱病時
Today was such a terrible day, I just wanted to curl up and die.
Yeah, 指切り is a good way to say it. It's the same meaning. ^_^
I haven't seen bedazzled though. These days, I am watching a lot of really old movies, some American and Japanese ones.
Hi ミドッコ太郎,
Thanks for your question, and welcome to this community. I'm glad to see you here. ^^
Your use of "I'm dying for a break" is perfect! Good job!!
If you are working really hard but could not rest, you would say "I'm dying for a break".
We say it when we really really want something.
"I'm dying for chocolate", "I'm dying to go home", I'm dying to have some drinks" ^^
