Since today is Valentine's Day in Japan, I thought it might be fun to talk about how Valentine's day is different in the US and Japan.

In the US on Valentine's Day, man or woman can give a present to the person they like. Also, we do not have any tradition for "White Day".
I think because if a guy likes a woman, it is usual for him to say it to her. So..kind of everyday in the US is White Day. ^_^

Also, many people give chocolate, but almost anything is okay. Some people give flowers, jewlery, or something like that.

Actually, I really like Japanese style better. You know, it is so much pressure for the guy to always have to say his feelings. So if there is one day where the woman has to tell the man she likes him, I think that is best. ^_^

But maybe it is because I am a guy...haha

Anyway, what does everyone think about it?
And if you have had Valentine's day in the US, please share your story. ^_^

Hi Kaori,

Yes, it is too much to wait one month to reply right?!
I think your idea to have White Day the next day, is really good!!

Also, I think many guys are going to be sad, if they do not receive chocolate today, so it is a diifcult day for many people.
I think if we like a person, we should tell them on any day, not only a special day like Valentine's day.

Hi Snoopy,

Giving chocolates because you have to is really terrible. Really, why do guys want to have chocolates from office girls, when they know the girls do not really like them? If I was the guy in the office, I wouldn't want someone to feel like they HAVE to get me something.
I don't like this kind of thing either.
If I give a person something for valentine's day, it is because I really like them, not from pressure.
Hi James,

Today is Valentine's day!
I gave my boyfriend CD and a small chocolate. I spent much money on CD, so I bought small chocolate, haha
Every year, I make chocolate or chocolate cakes for my boyfriend, friends, my dad, and my brother. But, I don't have kitchen in my dormitory this year. So, I bought some chocolate to give people.
I think it is also common for Japanese girls to exchange chocorate with each other. It may sounds strenge, but it's veeery fun! I got many candies from my girlfriends when I was in high school. Actually, I belonged to girl's high school. So, girls enjoy having various chocolate. You know, girls love sweet candies very much. We could have so much fun eating chocolate!
But, I've never heard of guys who exchanged candies with each other. I think it's better to have something on Valentine's day even though it is from their boy friends.

For me, Valentine's day is like Christmas day.
Everyone get some presents, and become happy.
I'm gonna make chocolate in my kitchen next year's Valentine.

How is your Valentine's day, James?
Have you already got something or gave something for someone?
Hi Mari,

You know, guys are so weird creatures. ^_^
If a guy gives another guy chocolate, they are going to think he is gay. I think it's stupid to think it of course, but that is stupid guy's thinking...haha
When I went to the movies with some guy friends once, they would not sit next to each other. I asked them why and they said, "We don't want to seem gay".
So....especially on Valentine's day, guys are really sensitive about it...^_^
I think girls are just more comfortable with themselves.
That is why I have more female friends then guy friends. They are better to talk with. ^_^

I'm glad you had a nice Valentine's day!!
For me, I had to work, and I didn't get any chocolate!! ^_^
Actually, I don't care so much about it. Maybe I cared about it when I was a kid though....hehe
