In the last part of the story, Georg's dad writes about how he can feel himself slowly dying, but has no power to stop it. He also has an important question to ask Georg, but first...he will tell him a nailbiting story. ^^
「When I read this far, I had to look up. I'd tried to remember my dad lots of times, and now I tried again. He'd asked me to. But all I seemed to be able to see was images from the videos and the photo album.
I remembered having a large wooden train set when I was young, but that didn't help me remember Dad. The green tricycle still lived in the garage, and so I was fairly sure I could recall that from my childhood as well. And the red push-chair had always lived at the back of the tool shed. But I couldn't bring back any of the trips round Lake Sognsvann. Nor could I remember going up the Tryvann-starnet observation tower with Dad either. I'd been to the observation tower lots of times, but that was with Mum and Jorgen. Once I'd been there alone with Jorgen. It was while Mum was in hospital after having Miriam.
Of course, I had tons of memories from the cabin at Fjellstolen, but there wasn't room for Dad in any of them. There was only Mum, Jorgen, and baby Miriam. We have an old guest book in the cabin, and I've often read what my dad wrote in it before he died. The problem was simply that I didn't know if I could remember anything he was writing about. It was roughly the same as with all the photos and videos. 'On Easter Saturday Georg and I built a record breaking igloo complete with snow lanterns....' Of course, I'd read all those entries, and knew some of them by heart. But I'd never managed to rememeber being part of the event described. I was just 2 1/2 when Dad and I built that record breaking igloo with all its snow lanterns. We've got a picture of it too, but it's so dark all you can see is the candles.
Then there was something else that my dad had asked about in that long letter I'd only just started to read:
'And by the way, how is the Hubble Space Telescope doing? Do you know? Have the astronomers found out any more about how our universe is put together? '
Reading this sent a shiver down my spine, because I'd just recently completed a large special assignment on the Hubble Space Telescope. Other people in my class had written about British football, the Spice Girls, or Roald Dahl. But I'd gone to the library and brought back everything I could find on the Hubble Space Telescope and written my special assignment on that. I'd handed it to my teacher only a few weeks ago, and in the file I'd produced, he'd written that he was very impressed with 'such an adult, thoughtful, and well informed approach to a difficult subject. ' I don't think I've ever felt so proud as when I read that sentence. As a headline ot his comments the teacher had written, 'Laurels for an amateur astronomer! ' And he'd also drawn a crown of laurels as well」
For everyone who is waiting for Georg's dad's story about the Orange Girl, it's coming soon, so just wait a few more pages. ^_^
