The National Museum of Singapore is pleased to present "Storm," an Art On-Site project by Jinnie Seo.
Jinnie Seo's latest installation transforms the newly constructed glass atrium of the National Museum of Singapore into a turbulent theatrical domain. The atrium, originally a transparent light filled environment, has become a dynamic multi-hued site dominated by the kaleidoscopic interplay of reds, blues, greens, grays and silvers. Utilizing vinyl film sheets adhered onto the interior and exterior of the glass fa?ade, Seo has designed a monumental mural inspired by the dark side of nature. The painting window depicts a view of a storm.
Seo's prior installations for Leeum Samsung Museum of Art in Seoul, and The Hermes in Singapore have primarily involved surrounding her audience within the realm of a site-specific drawing. For this particular site, Seo has engulfed her viewers in a swirl of movement, emotion and gesture once again emphasizing how non-objective line, space and form can become a transformative moment. In many ways, the artist has turned a placid museum entrance into a highly charged environment where museum visitors move through a theatrical curtain.
ART ON-SITE Under the Art-On-Site program, artists are invited to exploit the site specific qualities of the National Museum's public spaces. Artists are encouraged to develop work that alters visitor perceptions of the museum environment. The commissions under the program take art out of the white cube of the gallery and into the open spaces traversed by the public in the Museum.
