Ame - hailing from the small town of Karlsruhe in western Germany, Ame (pronounced: Ahm, = French for soul), were responsible for one of the biggest underground bombs of last year, the Rej Ep, released on Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv label. This record defined the sound of 2005, a true minimal House / Techno anthem, encapsulating the spirit of clubs such as Cocoon, Circo Loco and secretsundaze all in one and it featured at number one of many a DJs and record shops yearly chart round up - it was Phonica's biggest selling 'minimal' record and 8th top selling record of the year. Not bad going!
We welcome Kristian Beyer to the decks, half of the Ame duo. Having witnessed him play several years ago at the Bridge and Tunnel, we can safely say he is an experienced and 'proper' house dj and not one who has just taken it up because he's got a big record out..
In the basement, we have a couple of oddball Disco effeciandos on hand, in the form of Midnight Mike (Gomma) and local man about town, Nathan Gregory Wilkins.
Midnight Mike is the alter ego of Mike Silver, a devilishly talented young musician, producer and singer who first came to prominence a few years ago in the band Sonovac, signed to Trevor Jackson's Output Recordings. An admirer of the dark side of Disco and Rock'n'Roll, Mike founded Flesh Records, discovered and produced Zongamin, and released his own excellent tracks. He has also recorded some top-notch works for the likes of Gomma and Eskimo and his latest label project 'Here To Go' is steadily gaining underground momentum.
Nathan can join the dots between modern pop, kooky techno and 80s disco and makes them sound like natural bedfellows but more recently, he has been focusing more on his aptly named 'Oddball Disco', something we are quite fond and rather in awe of at Go!Zilla - his taste is as impeccable as his quiff is buoyant! He is responsible for countless re-issues and re-edits under various aliases, (which he would have to kill us for if we listed here!) and is a very experienced DJ to boot too, with residencies varying from Atomic Jam to Electric Stew to name but a few. He's favoured by the fashion clique as well, having played at events for everyone from Prada, Versace and Chanel to rising stars such as Giles Deacon. It's a pleasure to welcome Nathan's eccentricity to Go!Zilla where we're sure he will be among good company!
Of course, James Priestley will be on residential duties, hot on the heels of his other night, secretsundaze, being voted 'best club night' by Time Out readers (thanks to everyone who voted!) and also, as you know by now, after the massive success of his Nude relaunch at Ministry (the best that club has been seen in years!) Go!Zilla co-promoter Terry Hart will be working his magic on the other side of the decks for the night so expect an amusing and healthy dose of drama and carry-on on the dancefloor too!
All in all, we hope you'll agree, the scene is set for another heavily charged session of Go!Zilla - collision and collusion!
