Do you watch movies ? What was the last movie you watched? How did you like it? Please tell us your best movie this year? It can be the one you watched in a theater or the one on DVD. Let's talk about movies !!
Yesterday, I watched the Straight Story on DVD, that is one of the best movies I watched this year. This is about a journey of an old man who had never seen his brother for more than ten years after a small argument.. Before that, they were good brothers, they laughed together and worked hard together.
He drove a lawn mower for several weeks to see his brother... meeting lots of people during the trip. One day, he met a group of bicycle racing and was asked by a young man what the worst part of being old is. He answered "The worst part of being old is remembering when I was young"... silence.
This movie is a bit too silent and slow but this movie should be slow because it's about the old man who walked slow and drove the slow lawn mower. He doesn't talk much that's why what he said had meanings. Everybody who met him on his journey liked him. At the end of the movie, he met his brother, you will feel what you will. This movie will move your heart and lead you be in tears.
I think the best movie I watched this year is 'Sin City'. It was very cool movie.
I watched it in the movie theater last fall.I thought it is black-and-white movie at first, but it isn't.
Black-and white was based on thestructure of the movie, but some color :red and yellow set in the point of picture. The effect was very good. The scenario was violent and grotesque story, but the movie can be artistic one by these images.
If this movie is recorded a DVD, I will recommend you towatch it. And, I promise you will be excited when you watch it!
Hmm... so far I haven't seen anything too exciting in the theater. I think I missed all the cool stuff I did want to see. But one of my all time favorites is Super Troopers. I laugh my ass off every time I watch it.
The other day I wathched "ALWAYS 三丁目の夕日". I think you guys have already known or watched this movie^^, just I guess. As for me, its pretty good movie which reminded me something from my mind.
The content of the movie is about life in 1950s. It invited laughter and moved me to tears.
I felt the warmth of people and realised now we're lacking of something that was common in the past.
I went to Fukuoka last weekend by bus. Then i watched
"LAST SAMURAI" in the bus.it was second that i wached it.this is very fomous movie so you know it.
Tom Cruise played the leading role in it.but i was attracted KEN WATANABE.
this movie is about the japanese spirit.i yearn for another country when i forget a pride as a japanese.
this movie told me something which is valuable as japanese again.
I recommend it ,if you think that you do such a thing
for what.
まどろ、Sin City, I haven't watched it. I didnt really interest me, so i didnt watch, but i may be watching it when I go home in Okinawa during the vacation :)
カーちゃん、 Super Troopers, is it a comedy ?? I usually don't watch American comedies, but I love Meet the Parents, haha. I watched it when I lived in NY. It was soooo funny!!
ちえ、hi, ALWAYS 三丁目の夕日is a JP movie, yeah, it must be a heartwarming movie. I usually don't watch Japanese movies, but probably I will do this one, but on DVD :-)
ゆり、i guess it's "in" the scenes, ask カーちゃん、he must be the expert of English, haha. I haven't watched the Piano either, but as you said, this is a beautiful movie, so I think I like to watch it.
みきたん、I did watch the Terminal in a theater, yeah I liked it. It's Tom's typical movie, I thought. That's a good movie to watch with your family and kids, if you have, i think.
さら、oh you chose the Last Samurai, the movie I didn't enjoy very much, haha. I thought it was a typical American-made Japanese movie and didn't really show the soul of Japanese or the Japanese culture. The samurai should not cry in front of others, but the samurai kid did when he lost his chonmage. I know he must be very 悔しい、but he wouldn't behave like that. And these 農民 couldn't live in the same town or the place where 侍s settled, but in the movie, they lived together. It didn't reflect our history or the background.
However, I like how Ken acted, and was surprised because Ken's English was so good for a Japanese who had never spoken English till a few month before they started shooting it. I knew he tried to pronounce "th" sound clearly, so sometimes I thought he did a bit too much emphasize it, like "I THink...", but overall, his was quite good, and it was much better than pronouncing "s" for "th", like Japanese tend to do usually. He was not very young to start learning a new language, but he could manage it. And I know there are many people living in the state for decades still have the beautiful Japanese accent, haha. Compare to them, he is genius..
Super Troopers is a comedy, but I bet you'll never find it in Japan. Your English has to be really good to get all the jokes, so it may be a good test for you if you can find it to download.
yeah, a comedy is the most difficult category to understand in a foreign language, i guess, the 2nd one is politics, haha. i dont know if i can find it here in japan :-( i am usually trying to understand a movie without subtitles, but since i came back here, again i got used to read these japanese .. or sometimes i read the japanese and listen to English, then get confused, sometime i could totally be at lost ...
my english is not that good, well compared to regular Japanese, it may be good though, but when i was in NY, the most of my friends whose mother tongue is not japanese spoke far better english than I did. They are mainly Chinese, Koreans and people from European countries. Compared to theirs, mine is not really ... it took me six months to understand what American coworkers were talking about. It was too fast for me !!
