[ TWENEX.ORG Public Access TOPS-20 System News ]
Did you really want to run a free irc bot on our system? Keep reading.
2006 has been a big year for TWENEX.ORG so far with the addition of over 2000 new users. We're happy to see the interest in TOPS-20 still out there and have a few announcements for all our users.
WORKING and PERMANENT storage requests for up to 20,000 pages can now be made. When making your request, be sure to let us know what project you are working on. We will be installing three additional RP07 drives to accomodate the increase in online storage. All storage will be backed up on a weekly basis.
We're currently looking for a few DDT hackers who might be able to get 'NEWS.EXE' debugged so that it no longer barfs on large active files like the one sent by our USENET server. Currently you can use 'NEWS' to read and post to alt.sys.pdp10 as well as other USENET groups. While there are other features that could be useful, we unfortunately do not have the source. The binary came from the DECUS libraries and although we've been looking for the source for years, we've been unsuccessful.
The buggy NCSA HTTP server binary which we got from XKL several years ago is currently not running due to excessive crashing. From what we understand the source code is not available. If you wish to visit the TWENEX.ORG webpage, just use the URL http://www.twenex.org. For those of you who have been hosting personal websites on twenex.org, we apologize that the novelty is now gone. However, TOPS-20 is hardly about 'duh web', now is it?
Have you ever typed 'HELP GAMES' on TWENEX.ORG? I bet you have, but if you haven't, you should! A user on the SDF Public Access UNIX System (sdf.lonestar.org) is currently compiling a list of all ASCII games available on both systems and setting up a tutorial on each game.
Still trying to figure out just what TOPS20 is? Try typing 'TOPS20' once you've LOGGED IN and take the TOPS20 interactive tutorial.
Okay, so did you really want to run an irc bot on our PDP-10? Chances are you don't know what a PDP-10 is and thats fine. However, we are going to give you the tools and a challenge: If you can write an irc bot on our system, then you can run it for free. Are you keen enough to try?
