Hi, my name is Anna Arita. Today, I’d like to talk on chocolates and background of it. Next month, we have Valentine’s Day. Chocolates are one of presents of Valentine’s Day. As you know, raw materials of chocolates are cocoa, milk, sugar, and so on. But, do you know that there are tear of children in chocolates?
First, I’d like to talk on the production of chocolates. Actually, many children work very hard to make chocolates. Most of them work in coca firm. Employers sometimes do violence to children. However, they can not escape from works because they are poor. Most of cocoa are exported from developing countries to advanced nations. Many companies which make chocolates would like to save personal costs. Therefore, many children have to work hard because personal costs of them are low.
Second, I’d like to talk my opinion. We don’t know well about this problem though it is connected our daily life. We eat chocolates casually. But I think that we must not forget backgrounds of them.
Do you know fair trade? I think it is one of means to solve this problem. Fair trade promotes the payment of a fair price as well as social and environmental standards in areas related to the production of a wide variety of goods. Surely, fair trade has some problems. For example, if children are liberated, they will work another place, because they are poor. And, fair trade goods are expensive. But, fair trade will help their life, and it will become a step which solves the child labor problem. I think that we will be able to think about this problem through fair trade goods.
As has been mentioned, next month, we have Valentine’s Day. We need to think background of chocolates.
