The charity gig 3rd December was over a week ago, and yes I did promise to do a review of the show. I was a complete wreck as I was the organiser, I had loads of help off my hubby and friends, but I'll let you into a little secret I am a complete worrier, Its just my nature. The weather had changed for the worst on that day, the weather was very cold with snow forecast, I'd been in touch with Tony during the day, Tony lives further up north than I so his area gets a real battering with bad weather, more so than us further south, he was on his way and we'd agreed on his arrival time. 6.30 pm I am at the venue and no Tony, my worries had returned, but I called him and he was but a 10 minutes drive away, phew!! I thought, the minutes ticked by still no sign of the band, Adrian arrives as he had travelled separately, what seemed to be a life time Tony's white van appears at the stage door. I asked of the delay, modern technology a sat nav had taken them passed the venue and to our local Library. You would think panic over I start to worry more, hoping people would turn out on such a cold night. The room began to fill up and so the lights were dimmed for the first set! Haru, I was so nervous I couldn't give you a full account of the night, All I can remember is when Tony sang Aerosmith's I don't Want To Miss a Thing, I don't know who misqueued, the order of the words were not in the right place, but Tony pulled it back and the audience didn't notice a thing, and he sang something about being in the Bermuda Triangle??? buts that's what I love about live music, you just don't know whats going happen next, but we had a fab night and we raised over £3000 which we are well pleased about.
But last nights gig, well it was the best ever,it was well attended gig at the Westminster Club Doncaster South Yorkshire (under the current economical climate a lot of venues are struggling) so it was good to see turn out and it was an excellent atmosphere.

The first set started with a 'Guns N Roses' classic 'Sweet Child of Mine', at this point there were a few gremlins with the left-hand side stage speaker, kicking in and then going off, Tony did a bit of tinkering with the leads and plugs while still playing and the speaker it kicked back in. Tony never sings in the same style as the original artist, he puts his own mark on it and I love this song and I would be the first on the dance floor if he sang it in the second set (in England its seems to be a tradition that the first set, the audience sit/stand and listen, clap, whistle and cheer but not so many dance). The second song Tony puts his Bass guitar down and grabs the microphone, even does a little kind of tap dance, Adrian's shows off a little here with some strong famous ''Bad Company' guitar chords for 'Can't Get Enough', Tony sing this song with such ease, 'Is this Love' by 'Whitesnake' follows, Tony delivers this song with so much soul, when he finishes the song I'll stand to be corrected as Dave 'The Hat' Atkinson finishes the song, in which I can only say with a bit of an Elvis edge, the audience are already cheering for more. Tony then picks up his acoustic Guitar, its a battered old thing, but it still sounds pretty good, 'Fleetwood Mac's' 'Go Your Own Way' well I can't sit for this one and I hit the dance floor, to my surprise someone joins me, (Shushhh, but I keep nagging Tony to put this in the second spot, because Tony sings it which such energy, you just want to dance to it, (maybe if I nag long enough, he just might). Now Haru, I've told you before how when Tony sings 'Aerosmith' 'I Don't Want Miss a Thing' and how it makes the hairs on your arm stand up! well mine are still standing, all the right words in the right order, but his range and what seem to be the feeling that went into the song, it was well worth the travel just for that song, I swear he sings it better than Steve Tyler and l am a big Aerosmith fan at that! Tony then finished off the set with 'Journey's' 'Separate Way's', 'Who's Crying Now' and 'Boston's 'More Than A Feeling' again Tony delivered this song showing off the awesome power of his voice.
Haru during the break you will be please to know that I gave Tony your gift, I told you he would be delighted with it.
Second set, what a wonder surprise, he sang 'Foreigners' 'It Feels Like The First Time' just fab I've never heard Tony sing this before, I was well impressed. Tony then went on to sing more classic anthems, 'Free's' 'Alright Now', Toto's' 'Hold The Line', 'Deep Purple's' 'Smoke On the Water', 'Rainbow's 'Since You've Been Gone', 'Bryan Adam's 'Summer of 69', 'Bon Jovi's' 'Living On a Prayer' and the old time favourite Journey's ' 'Don't Stop Believing' (Tony would be run out of town if he didn't sing Don't Stop Believing) I never tire of hearing them. The band left the stage but returned to a deafening cheer to sing Jefferson/Starship's 'Jane' and he repeated 'It Feels Like The First Time' because that's what the public wanted, Tony thanked the band the people who had turned out on another cold night and wished them all a Merry Christmas, the band left the stage and the audience were still cheering for more (I thought he might have popped back on and done 'Leds Zeppelins' 'Black Dog'), So Tony left the audience wanting more, and to be honest that's how it should be, and its a long way back home up the A1. Though The Tony Liddle Band has been around for a while, we've loved every past member of the band, and this line up is relatively new playing together, but they are getting tighter with their playing together they have added a new edge. Well worth going to see time and time again
