Barefoot Gen is such a terrible movie. So terrible that I had to make it into something comedic.

i actually heard the japanese have many cartoons for historical events such as hiroshima, so that children can understand it better. which is a good thing, but yea that movie hurt (feelings, so horrible)

　This movie is horrible because of the terrible Japanese voice acting coupled with the thrust from laughing childish moments to visions of horror and death. Normally, one would consider such a film to be true to life, but this movie is not so. I cannot decide whether it wants to be a series movie or a silly one. It's awful because of that.

　You do realize that the author of the manga, and the director of the movie was an actual survivor of the Hiroshima boming...
when Gen is standing at his school watching the Enola Gay drop it's payload, that's where the author really was standing himself, many of the details are fictionalized but a lot is based on what really happened to himself.
So I think that's historically pretty important, because I don't know of another film made by a hiroshima survivor about hiroshima.

　Yes, I do realize this. He has an amazing story. This movie was not a good way to tell that story. Perhaps he realizes this now. Hindsight is 20/20.

its not that awful. its pretty good in the manga as i've heard. The guy who created it lived thru it when he was a kid hence the manga hence the movie.
But. I do think its a good anime. but i hate how it does thrust sad horrible scences into happy ones. it gets annoying but i wont agree completely.
