Swash; showcased at Hyere`s 2004; and have had two catwalk shows during London Fashion Week. More recently Swash exhibited in London Fashion Week sponsored by the New Generation award and are currently working on a collection to be shown in Paris fashion week and as part of the Mango Fashion Awards. Swash places emphasis on the melee of possibilities within a garment. From the abstract to the refined; tailored to the oversized; functional to the absolute wacky: it's about achieving an anarchic balance in their design.
Length of placement: 4 weeks with an opportunity to stay longer
Location: In the design & sample making studio, Hackney, London?
Experience gained: The candidate will not just acquire experience from a design perspective, but also, the process of selling & manufacturing. For the first few weeks of the placement, the candidate will be involved in developing ideas and samples for the forthcoming season (S/S 08) i.e. pattern cutting, stitching & fitting. These samples will be realised by mid September 2007 when they will then be photographed, shown on the catwalk and exhibited & sold during Paris fashion week.
This placement opportunity would suit a fashion student. The ideal candidate will have a sound technical background & understanding of conceptual design. Moreover, it would be advantageous if the candidate were interested in understanding the whole design process through to manufacture & sales, as we firmly believe this is an integral part of designing & running a fashion label.
Supervision: The candidate will benefit from close supervision from the two chief designers, and will work alongside them on a daily basis. This will allow the candidate to learn from the designers and receive feedback on their progress & work.
