Monica: No, mom. I don’t have a restaurant. I work in a restaurant.

mother: Well, they don’t have to know that.

・the Lugwins=ルグウィン家。the＋ファミリーネーム＋s＝〜家と訳します。
・gonna＝アメリカ英語で、going toを省略した形です。口語ではよく使われますので、皆さんも使ってみて下さい。
・have a thing for〜＝〜に気がある。誰かに対して何かを持ってるっていう表現ですね。何となく納得できますか？
・anyway＝とにかく、一応と困った時や話題転換の時に使う一言です。たぶん皆さんはよくご存知だと思いますが。
・on one's part=〜の関する、〜のせいで。「I know this is going to sound unbelievably selfish on my part…」をそのまま訳すと、「これは私のせいで信じられなく自己中に聞こえると思うけど」といった具合かな。ちなみに、和訳のコツは後ろから訳すことです！！
・bring up=ここでは、持ち出すという訳が良いでしょう。そのほかに育てるなどの意味もあります。でもちゃんと英文を読めばだいたいの予測はつくかと思います。
