I am a member of Seinendan theater company and I would like to let you know of our contemporary Japanese drama production shown with English subtitles this weekend at Shumpusha Studio Theater in Kotakemukaihara. Please come see me play Stalin.
Though this 30-minute comedy written and directed by Oriza Hirata is a poignant parody of the Yalta Conference in 1945 by the Big Three (Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin), the language used is completely contemporary colloquial Japanese. It has been presented across Japan and in 2006 toured 8 North American cities.
This time "The Yalta Conference" is followed by a staged reading of Oriza Hirata's new play "In the Heart of a Forest" (in Japanese with no English subtitles). You can see both shows.
