Hi everyone, my name is nori, I live in the Kokubu-city of Kagoshima province. I've been living in Japan for about 3 years now, and just moved to Kagoshima about a year ago, to work as a R&D engineer in the feild of electronics components. Hope to meet someone to talk to, because I'm starting to become tired of communicating in my broken Japanese.
Damn, it's been awhile since I posted up this message board, but seems like no one has really visited here!?
Well, I guess I gotta break the ice by introducing myself somemore...
here it goes-
I lived in Washington for a majority of my life... I went through middle school, and high school in an average Northwest suburb called Vancouver; go Couve! For college, I moved up to Seattle, and after graduation I moved to Japan... I moved around quite a few times in my life, but I liked the Northwest the most.
When I came back to Japan, I lived in Nara and picked up a few freelance engineering work, and then I came to Kagoshima about a year ago to work for the big K, as a full-time R&D engineer in the field of semiconductor technology.
Although, my work is pretty exciting, by personal life is pretty dull, so I've decided to open up a door to the community in hopes to find someone to talk to, or to share an interests with. Don't be a stranger! I've just recently bought a car, so I'm always up for driving. If you need a ride-bitch gimme a holla!
Now we have two members on this community and I hope the population keeps growing... My intention is to meet new Engish speaking people through this community... so evenif I forget to respond to your posts, I hope that you won't be discouraged by it; cuz I can be pretty busy from time to time...
Anywho, you guys better keep writing & posting about anything, it can be about some worthless shit, to pass some time, or just bitch about something; anything and everything!!
I have suffered from huge disappointed happening...
I need your help.
Actually, I got fired as not suit to this office ambience
and short of my English ability on this friday.
I also feel more comfortable rather than working in uptight this company...
But, I want to try to work using English although not be good at English.
As a result, It will be the same, fired!!! because I can't be good at English.
Since, I think better to work more lelaxed contend with my individual character without English... although I really want to use it.
At first, I worked at travel agency for 6 years, and then I was an employee for a customs broker for 3 years, although I was fired trading company for 3months.
I must choose which one...
I have no good idea anymore!!!!!
working travel agency :
It's very fun! but, I am already 33years old, I think it's too old...
customs broker :
It's so hard but not so bad and not too old...
Noted!!! I really want to use English, and I would really like to be proficient in it.
Sounds like you'll be needing some hardcore studying to become proficient in English... Hope you're prepared for some major "sitting down"!!
Its really Japanese of you to mention about your age, and therefore you are already on your way to give up your hopes to work for the travel agency. I guess I can't blame you for it because the Japanese society is prone to be that way... However, not to worry, because as you probably already know that achieving a degree is a key to your success in finding a new career.
To begin with, first you'll have to beaf up your resume by getting some sort of a certificates in conversational English. To become more proficient in conversational Engilsh is pretty tough things to do, specially in Japan... So, lets start by strengthening your ability to become proficient in "hearing" the English language!
First off, I recommend changing every aspect of your media needs into English from your daily life. For instance, through out all the J-pop out of your iPod, watch all your news on NHK and change it into English dub. Watch all your movies without the Japanese dub. Read English magazines, and newspaper, etc, etc.
The list goes on and on...
once you get used to it, make sure to turn off the Japanese subtitles off as well!
It'll probably take you a couple of weeks to get used to it... but once you do, you'll probably be needing some conversational partner... Try the EIKAIWA school... or if you it's too hard on your wallet, then get an account on the skype, and get yourself a head set-microphone; so that you I can be your conversational partner!?
